GREAT pitching season
I made a pitcher on the easiest level. Name was John Anderson. Had 100 talent in velocity and poise when he was drafted, with 70 in both stuff and control. Picked #1 overall by Detroit. Was in the majors to stay by the age of 21. By 25, he was at 100 talent in stuff and 90 in control because of workouts.
By age 24, he had become one of the top pitchers in the game and a free agent. I wanted him to play for the Giants, so he took their 12,000,000 a year for 3 years offer. They had finished just out of first the previous year. By this time, it is 2010. The Giants do worse that year even though he goes 24-7, 2.02 and wins the Cy Young. 2011 sees a sub-3.00 ERA, but only a 15-13 record because of poor offense. Then comes 2012. In the first four games, he has 28 Ks. And no walks. 0. He gets to 50 Ks and 1 walk. Then comes 100 strikeouts. Still one walk. By this time he's about 9-3 with a 1.75, but the team is horrible. The Giants have only won 27 games with about 55 losses. Still the season goes on. At the end of the season, the Giants were 65-97 and dead last in the NL West. But Anderson is 21-5. Wins the Cy Young. It doesn't stop there. He had 1.49 ERA. 289 IP with 269 K and 214 H. But the best is yet to come. He ended up walking only 12 batters the whole season. That's right, T-W-E-L-V-E. That makes for a 0.78 WHIP. Something like 90 percent quality starts. 14 complete games with 9 shutouts. Just an amazing season for a bad team. And by bad, I mean TERRIBLE! His previous full season low for walks was 30 in 257.1 IP the previous year. I decided that the Giants weren't going to win anything anytime soon, and Anderson was a FA, so I took the Yankees' offer of 14.5 mil. for four years. Anderson only went 21-8, 2.79 his first year in the Big Apple (actually, it was his third. He was traded by the Tigers to the Mets at age 21 and played a few years there before being traded again) but still won the Cy Young. In fact, he led the league in ERA and strikeouts and tied for the lead in wins, so he basically won the Triple Crown. The Yankees won it all with Anderson as their ace. I wonder if another 12-walk season is coming? |

And just a few hours after that post, Anderson had a pretty similar season: 26-5, 2.08, 258 K, 306.2 IP, 303 H, and a 0.99 WHIP. 2 walks! I'm serious. He walked one guy in his third game and one in his 26th. Absolutely amazing. Threw a complete game in 25 of 35 starts, including 4 shutouts. He won his fifth Cy Young, including fourth in a row (last three in AL), but the Yankees lost in the first round to the Royals, ending New York's World Championship streak at three. Oh, and he won his third straight Triple Crown (last two he has been ahead in every category, first one he tied in wins).
Before the season, his workouts increased his control to 100, so he has 100 in each of the four categories. I think maybe he could win more with a lower ERA if he focuses on throwing more balls. 303 hits in 306.2 innings is a lot for a great pitcher. |

I don't know if it is common, but I have a pitcher that has done that virtually his entire 20 year career.
Started him on normal I think, but used the pitching workout posted here somewhere so he ended up with 100 in everything but speed which was at 90. I upload a screenshot of his career so you can see, it is pretty unreal. Whats funny is Detroit never finished in first place in their Division, and only made the wild card ONCE over the entire career, yet somehow this guy was able to shut down the opponent enough and get enough run support to win so many. Wow.. what's even more impressive is that string of 11 straight years of 20+ win seasons...

Worst team I've ever seen...
Quote:
I can tell you why Johnny switched teams after 20 years. Detroit couldn't even make the postseason with a pitcher that good. Johnny has absolutely no postseason experience. Though he did win 9 Best Pitcher Awards. Detroit was AWFUL for the entire time. Best finish was like 85-77 or along those lines. Very rarely would the team have anyone make over 100rbi or run scored. I don't think they had two at the same time ever. And naturally the pitching staff was horrible except for Johnny, except for the one year they made the wild card they had a rookie do well (by well I mean under 4.00era) but he was gone the next season in a trade. Johnny was injured for 3 weeks at the end of September so he missed that one postseason and Detroit made it to the WS so I know they would have won if he hadn't been injured. I amazed me that Johnny was winning so many games with such an awful team. Detroit never lost more then 90 games when Johnny was pitching and the year after he left they lost 113. Yeah, my guy's career looks something like that. I mean the regular season part. He ended 2026 at age 41 with 398 wins. Signed a one-year extension for 300,000 and was expecting to easily get those two wins. But SF sent him to AAA for some reason and eventually cut him. He got picked up by horrible Baltimore, started two games for them without a win (but pitched well both games) and then was sent down and immediately cut. I then retired him.
Sadly, I started a new career in the same league and now I believe the screen as is shown by grizzly451 is not available for me. I did find him at the "ILB Homepage," so I guess I could make a screenshot of that. Of course, how would one do a screenshot? |

Just open the game up to the screen you want the shot of, then hit the printscreen button (prtscrn maybe)
then open up paint or a program like it, and hit the paste button on a blank background. your screenshot should now show up. Another strange thing happened, if you notice in 2025 in that highest screenshot, the record is 16-10, but for some reason the next time I opened INTP, everyone's stats had been reset to basically before the all-star break, but the date was still the end of the season, so basically I lost half a season (that I had already simmed) for no reason which kind of sucks. I'm not sure why it reset like that. Last edited by grizzly451 : 12-15-2005 at 09:19 AM. |
