Michael Mau...
I wanted to be a well rounded outfielder. I am a good contact hitter with a good eye as well. I've got some homerun power.

Draft day comes, and I'm listed as a 3 1/2 star CF. Which is exactly what I wanted to be, a Centerfielder, just like in real life(UW-Oshkosh).
Alright, so the draft goes through I decided to take a walk to pass time. So, after a 1/2 hour walk I decided to see who had been taken already in the draft. I'm getting closer to the top of the draft list, with only two other position players ahead of me. So I'm thinking it's almost time to get the call. Maybe the Cubs(my favorite team) will get me 6 picks from now in the 1st round. There are still a few good SP's ahead of me, so it looks like I could be the 14th pick(Cubs). Time to waste time by just waiting.. 9th pick... 10th... 11th.. Still no call.. I'm getting nervous now. 12th.. Now I'm one of two position players left behind a few Relievers and Starters. 13th pick... Still no call. "Dad, will I even get drafted? I thought I'd be drafted higher." "Now now, son. Don't you worry, you had lots of clubs who wanted you in the first round, your time will come. Just give it a few more picks." "Yeah, I figured as much. I'm just so nervous! What if they only offer me $50,000, you guys would barely be able to catch a few games." "Get those jitters out of your system, you'll need to relax once your training with the team starts up. You don't want to be pulling any muscles or something!" "I suppose." *Deep breath*. "I feel a little better now." *BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRINNNNNNNNNNNNG* "Hello?" "Is this Michael Mau?" "Yes, speaking." "Hi, I'm the GM for the Chicago Cubs. I just wanted to let you know we've decided that you will be our future center fielder in the years to come. Congratulations. We're giving you a signing bonus of just over a million bucks. Happy?" "Oh, My God! You are kidding me! The CUBS!? Wow, this is a dream come true! Thank you!" "I'll talk to you again soon kid! Nice to have you in our farm system! We're really looking forward to your arrival." *click* "You hear that dad? I'm gonna play for the Cubs!!!" "YEAH! And we'll be there for every game, son!" With the 14th pick in the first round, I was selected by the Chicago Cubs. How lucky! |

"Hello Michael. Welcome to our field. It's the home of our Single A ball club for the Chicago Cubs. For a number of reasons I'm going to insert you into the 8th spot as a DH. I want you to get used to playing then we'll insert you into a position."
"Alright, coach. Works for me." My first game went alright. I went 1 for 4 in the day, getting my first hit in the 4th inning, a screaming double. Very exciting. Now after two games: 2 for 8 (.250) 2 doubles 1 Run Scored 0 RBI's I think from here on out I'll do a weekly, or perhaps monthly updates. I'll also include important purchases, or happenings. Fourth game of the season:
First at-bat, double down the line. I didn't score, damn 9 batter. Second at-bat, runners on 1st and 2nd. RBI single to stretch the lead to five. Third at-bat, bases empty. There's a drive down the left field line, way back, it could be, it might be. It is! Michael Mau's first Minor League Homerun. So in the 5th inning I'm 3 for 3 with at least two more at-bats to go. Can I get the cycle??? Fourth at-bat, runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs. Groundout to short. Fifth at-bat, nobody on. Singles to center. And that's the ball game. Michael Mau's first 4-hit game of his young career. 4 for 5, HR, Double, 2 RBI's, 1 Run. Next day: 2 for 3 and my first time sitting the bench. I was pinch-hit for in the 7th inning. I was very upset about that because I was doing just fine. Oh well. Stats up to date: Code:
GP AB H HR RBI R 2B 3B BA OPS 6 26 10 1 4 3 4 1 .385 1.115 Last edited by mauboy : 12-19-2003 at 03:28 PM. |

I got bumped down to the 9 spot in the order. Which I don't really understand, I'm batting better than everybody but two guys who happen to be crazy studs.
Oh well. First game at the 9 spot: Two at-bats: 1 HPB, and fly out. I got benched early in the game too. There goes my mood again. Time to have a beer. And a woman. |

After falling under the .300 BA mark, I decided it was time to pick a fight in the bar. I took on 1B for the NY Mets minor league team.
Sad to say, he whooped me, but luckily I didn't get hurt. I didn't get him drunk enough apparently. I just didn't want to be too drunk for the game tomorrow. We're 11-6 with a 3 game losing streak. I'm hoping to lead my team to victory while stumbling around, drunk. |

"I got laid last night. I feel a lot better now! I hope this helps me at the plate a little bit!! Ha!"
"Hell yeah man. Coach is gettin pissed at us since we've lost 7 in a row now." Mau's new buddy, 1B Harry Barrera laughed. Getting laid helped Mike's mood, and at the same time, coach decided it was time for Michael to play in the outfield. Chicago: 11-8 "Micheal Mau batting 7th, playing Centerfield!" the announcer said over the loudspeaker. *Crowd goes wild* We lost again. And I helped by going 0 for 4. I am now hitless in my last 18 at-bats. Ouch. We'll see what coach does with me now. |

With the day off I decided it was time to work my ass off today. I did a good session of batting practice along with some lifts and some defensive drills.
Will my hard work pay off. We're at home against the Dodgers minor league squad. I'm in the 7th spot again, playing centerfield. With a .250 BA I should be on the bench. But they think my slump will end sometime soon. And I hope it does too, because it's frustrating. 1st AB: Popout to 2nd.. WOOT! 2nd AB: Fly out to short right.. BOO! 3rd AB: Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, bottom of 6, tie game.. The pitch... There's a drive, way back, to the wall in right. And it's caught on the warning track. Bummer. 4th AB: 1st and 3rd, 1 out, 2-1 lead. OUCH, HPB. Bases loaded, the next hitter singles and we now lead it 3-1. I was left on base, sadly. No more AB's on the night. 0 for 3 with a HPB. We won though finally, 3-1. That improves our record to 12-9. And my BA drops to a pitiful .239. |

My mood is low again after another hitless night. I decided to head to the bars again. I saw a 28 year old woman named Kate sitting by herself. I thought she looked good, so I sent a few drinks her way, and she checked out my stamp collection, and bam! Mood shoots up again.
$6.00 and getting some. Not bad. I'll have to try that in RL! ![]() The next morning I'm feeling lucky as I head off to the stadium. I am once again batting 7th playing CF. Michael comes up to bat in the 2nd inning and goes down swinging. Bottom of the 4th comes along and Mike strikes out swinging again. Ut-oh, time to read a book. I need to learn how to get a better eye! Alright. Scoring chances! Bottom of the 6th, BASES JUICED. Ground-out. 0 for 3 now. In the top of the 8th we're in the outfield and they're threatening to score. The score is 2-1 Cubs lead. Runners on 1st and 2nd. The pitch, line drive base hit to center, Mau comes flying in, he gets the ball and throws it home. It's in time, and he gets the runner trying to score. Mau has saved the game! I come up in the 8th, and fail to get on base again while grounding out to 2nd base. 0 for 4 on the day. We win 3-2 with a game winning double in the bottom of the 9th. A 2 game winning streak and now 25 at bats in a row without a hit. And batting a measly .227. I guess now's not the time to ask for a raise. I'll stay away from the owner. I'm going to up my workout schedule a little more, and drink less. |

Working hard paid off. Michael went 3 for 5 knocking in five runners, including a bases loaded triple. Now it's time for a beer with the owner eh? No more slump and the average rises too a very average .250.
At the bar I notice a MODEL sitting down. I go ask her for a drink with me, and she says "hell no." I thought I was good looking!! Oh well, I've got no game tomorrow. Got to stay focused and get working out! |

The team is now at 21-19 on the season after starting out 11-3. Michael has had his ups and downs thus far, but is coming around lately, knocking six hits in 12 tries. His average is now up to a decent .272.
More to come. I should warn you, I'll be gone for two days for a baseball camp that I am a part of(My college baseball team runs a camp every year and we help out with it). So you'll be missing this for two days until I return. But until then, I'm here and firing away on the dynasty. I have til about 2 in the morning, which is about 8 hours away! Weeehaw.. |

My new workout is a little more strenous(how do you spell that?).
New Workout Schedule I think Mike needed more time in the cages, so I did just that. |

With the team struggling through June, Michael Mau continues to be pretty consistent. He's been batting in the 6 spot in the order playing CF everyday since he's been back from his barfighting injury.
He's batting .281, with 1 HR, 12 Doubles, 21 RBI's, and 18 runs. |
