Well, I'm getting ready to start the 2016 season, which means I am starting my 14th year in professional baseball. I'm in my prime right now at age 31. Here's a quick rundown of my career thus far:
Drafted 1st round 4th overall by the Royals. Spent 2 years in A ball with them. Started the third year in AA and got the call to the show in the first week of the season. After getting my ticket punched I was immediately sent on a whirlwind tour of the AL getting traded to Tampa, then Baltimore, then Boston all in my first year. I finished my first year .234 with 6 HR and 35 RBI, but I guess Boston saw some potential in me because they hung on to me, and I was happy because they were the first good team I have actually played for to this point. I stayed in Boston for 5 years and went to the playoffs with them all but my last year with them. I decided I needed a change of scenery so I went looking to the free agent market, where I landed back with one of my former teams the Baltimore Orioles. They signed me to an 8 year 8.4million dollar deal. I have been with them ever since. We have been to the playoffs 3 of the 5 years I have been there but have also failed to bring the championship home yet. This means I have been to the playoffs 7 times and have yet to come home with a ring...maybe I should go play with the Braves. Through my career to this point I have won the Gold Glove for Catchers 4 times (including the last 2) and have been selected to the AL all-star squad 5 times including 3 in a row from 2007-2009. I have not won an outstanding Hitter award and probably never will, but I have consistently produced good numbers all the way through my career so far. In 12 years at the majors I have a .280 career BA with 217 HR and 328 doubles my career OBP is .356 and my career OPS is .841 I also have 38 career SB as a catcher. My Rookie card is currently worth $573.69 I'll keep you updated on how the back end of my career ends up Last edited by mudbug : 12-21-2003 at 02:02 AM. |

Well, At about age 33 my career started to plummet. I guess all those years behind the plate took thier toll on my knees. I was still very productive up to age 33 and still was a starting Catcher until I was 35. Details of the last 5 yrs of my career:
I went to another playoff with Baltimore....and lost again. Then I went free agent in persuit of finding a team that could actually win the series. The ring had become what I wanted at this stage.....so I decided to go with Montreal, who has won several World Series' during the span of my career. I went to the playoffs in my first two years with them...the second year we lost in Game 7 of the World Series to Anehiem. It wasn't meant to be. I won a couple more All-Star selections an 1 more Gold Glove. My awards now total: Gold Gloves in 2006,2010,2014,2015,2016 All-Star appearances in 2007,2008,2009,2011,2015,2017 76 POG awards 4 POW awards Hall of Fame selection I finished with a .273 Career BA, 286HR,458 doubles, an .811 OPS, .349 OBP, 74 tripples and 53 SB My Rookie card is worth $1148.64 at the end of my career. Next I will start my eldest son's career in the same league to see if he can do better than I did. |
