the Yuri Anakin chronicles.

Our young hero sits in his living room for 5 long rounds. In the middle of the sixth round he finally gets the call and is drafted by his hometown Mets. The pride of Brighton Beach is living the dream!!!

In his first season in the minors in A ball, he goes 1-13 with a 5.28 era but surprisingly gets promoted to AA.
In AA he goes 2-8 with a 3.76 era and once again he gets the call that says he's been promoted.
In AAA he goes 1-7 with a 6.75 era for a grand total of 4 wins and 28 losses over his first 2 and a half years in baseball.

As he sits in his room in norfolk cursing the pitching arm that has seemingly let him down, the phone rings........ kid.. pack a bag... catch a flight.... meet us in florida.... you've made it to the big show.

(Note: It occurs to me that this is a sad sad commentary on the state of the mets minor league system when a kid with a total of 4 wins can make it to the majors)

He spends the rest of his 3rd year as a pro as the 4th starter with the big club (occasionally the 3rd starter, once he was both the 4th and 5th starter strangely enough) and comes away with a record of 5-4, 4.39 era 84ip, 75 hits allowed in 20 starts.

scene...... manager and young ballplayer in the clubhouse.

Kid..... we have to work on your endurance. You barely make 5 innings most days. You coulda had a lot more wins if i didn't have to take you out in the 4th because of your lousy stamina.

You've got heart spud.... for a sixth round pick to make it this far is saying something. Now get out of my office and go run some laps.
