For the love of the game

After winning all my starts in the A league i was called by an agent telling me I should enter the draft. He got me entered. I sat by myself for a while thinking of what the future could hold for me.

It's 1 PM on the day of the draft. I'm sitting at home with my family all hudled around the phone waiting for it to ring

It rings

Me : Hello?
? : Hello John this is the GM of Detriot. We want to inform you that we picked you in the draft
Me : Oh really? Thats great I was doubtful if i would get picked.
GM : Doubtful? Your the best pitching prospect out there. Thats why we picked you were 1st to go in the draft
Me : HOLY CRAP! I mean YEAH!
GM : You are getting paid 3,500,000 make sure you show up for your first game in cleveland.

I hung up the phone and headed directly to Detriot to buy a house and a couple cars. Then I headed to Cleveland hoping to get some playing time my first game.

The day before the game in cleveland i visted Larrys Workout Shop across the street from the stadium. I started a workout with areas that i thought would help me develop into a star pitcher. Then I went the the store and bought a book about sliders. Then i went to the front office to see the pitching rotation. I'm the 2nd starter.

On the day of the game I was a little bit nervous even though i'm the second starter not the first. And being the 2nd day i was shocked when the coach came up to me and told me i was starting the game.

In the top of the first our team got 1 single.
Here we go. My first pitch in the double A. I pitching trying to get a groundball. It works 1 out. I held them hitless in the 1st inning.

In the top of the third Ted Ford started things off with a Homerun and with 1 out left Michael Acheson hit a homerun.
In the bottom of the 2nd the leadoff hitter got a single and i walked the 2nd hitter. Another Single. No outs and bases loaded. Its gonna take alot to get out of this one. We got one out by a run scored. I followed that up with my first strikeout. But they hit a single and knocked in another run making it 2-2. We get another out and the threat is over.

In the top of the 8th Leroy Evans hit a 2 run blast giving us a 4-2 lead. Followed by another run scored making it 5-2

Its the top of the 9th and our coach brings in the closer. I allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, 3 hits and 2 walks pitching 111. The closer finishs the game and we win 5-2. My first win.

It's already the 7th game of the season. I'm ready for the next game. I have a chance to improve my record to 2-0. The team is looking great. We got off to a great start and are 5-1. We are up against Kansas city. My first home game.

In the Top of the 9th its tied 0-0 and im still pitching and finish the inning with 2 strikeouts, 5 Hits allowed and 0 runs allowed. Depending on what happens in the bottom of the inning i could have my first shutout.
Bottom of the 9th Philip Miller strikes out. 2nd batter Nelson Ojeda hits a solo homerun to deep right field. I greet him at home plate to congradulate him on the home run and to thank him for helping me improve to 2-0 and get my first shutout.

I recived a call from the coach. He told me that I was being promoted to the Ace of the team. My ERA is 1.06 in 17 Innings pitched. I let in just 2 runs.
The team is 8-3.

Now I'm on a mission. With my confidence building I go for my third win in a row against oakland.

A bad start to the game, in the first I let in 2 runs and allow 3 hits.
In the 3rd i give up a solo homerun making it 3-0 for oakland
In the 4th i give up another run making it 4-0
In the 6th i gave up a 3 run home run. Its now 7-0 and im expecting to be pulled from the game. And i was right.

The team goes on to lose 8-1. I give up 10 hits and 7 runs including 2 home runs.

I lost my first game yesterday and i lost it bad. In a bad mood i decide to have some fun for once. I reach the sports bar, I look around and i see a familar face. Wait a minute, is that Steve Kuffrey? I aproach him and ask him to join me drinking hoping that he could cheer me up.

He tells me about this great game called OOTP and offers to tell me some of baseballs best kept secrets if i get him in the mood.

He doesnt tell me anything. Instead we just get drunk and I got in an arguement with the bartender because he wouldnt serve me anymore drinks

. It worked to cheer me up.

Time for the 4th game of my career. After coming off of a bad loss I felt that I needed to come back and prove myself worthy of being the 1st starter. The team is 10-6, we could use another win.

In the bottom of the 6th I let in a run that got on base from an error. No earned run charged on that one but its still disappointing cause we are losing 1-0.

In the top of the 7th we managed to come back and tie the game thanks to Terry Ousleys home run. Then we took the lead on a single making it 2-1

In the bottom of the 7th i let in the tieing run making it 2-2 and gave up a grand slam. Looks like this game is over for me. And it is.

We go on to lose 6-2. Making my record 2-2.

I need to turn this losing streak around. I know I can do it. Todays game is agasint seattle.

In the top of the first i gave up a 2 run homerun.
In the top of the second i gave up 5 runs including 2 homeruns and i got the hook.

We go on to lose 13-2. The team is 11-10 and i am 2-3. Im desperate for a win.
