age of high school players
This is minor, but I find it somewhat irritating. High School players should be either 17 or 18 years old and very rarely 19. The age cutoff to start school depends on your area. In my area as long as you will turn 5 by October 31 you can start school at age 4. So, 12 years later, these kids are 16 to start their senior year of HS but quickly turn 17 (by Oct 31 in the my case).
What this means that is on day of the ameture draft players born between that day (e.g. June 1) and the age cutoff (Oct 31) will be 17 years old. Others will already have turned 18. IMO this should be corrected since this cheats the younger high school draft picks out of a year of development time. Addendum: If you add 3 or 4 to this for guys drafted out of college you get college guys that range from 20 to 22. Also, some guys will do a year of Juco, so you could have guys that are 18/19 (one year removed from HS). |

I knew of some kids at my high school who played baseball their senior year and they were 18 and would have turned 19 before the draft began.....It could happen in the bigs
I believe the National Legion league is a 19 yr old cutoff, but I could be wrong. I dont listen to the coaches
