me too.
Seriously, I have no idea. I am experimenting with the thought a closer needs to have alot of poise.

If you sink all your stats into great stuff, and poise, but completely disregard the stamina, do you usually get a middle reliever? I haven't tried yet.
Also, ITP isn't really set up to create closers accurately. The vast majority of major league closers are converted starters. Even Armando Benitez, and Kaz Sasaki are converted starters. Hell, Troy Percival is a converted minor league catcher, and Trevor Hoffman a was a minor league shortstop. |

I created a character with two pitches, a 100 velocity, 100 poise and 80 stuff. He comes out of the draft as a middle reliever, and is still one by the time he gets to the bigs. What's the secret to getting a closer?

I have experimented with everything myself too. I created a player, transfered the file to OOTP, and tried adjusting every rateing in every way, and ALWAYS a MR, never a closer, with any configuration.

I have played an entire career as a MR pitcher, never even 1 save, the AI would rather put a crappy career minor league pitcher as the closer than my player. |

Being a closer appears to be an impossibility.
Right now, I have a relief pitcher on the Yankees in 2014. There are three middle relievers on the team. One is rated 5 stars (me), another 4 (prospect) stars and another with 3 1/2 stars. The closer is rated at 4 1/2 stars. Two starters are being used in the pen, one with 2 stars and another with 1 1/2 stars. So out of the 6 relievers in the pen, and I closing? No. The guy with 4 1/2 stars is probably better than me, since Closers are rated in relation to other closers. I'm #6! As a 5 star middle reliever, I can't even get the nod as a setup man! I'm the 3rd middle reliever, behind the two failed starters, who posted a 5.24 and a 5.77 ERA the prior year! Massive AI problem, in trying to determine the bullpen roles, wouldn't you say? |

I'd agree that making a closer is impossible. This is another issue that should be resolved through a new patch. Choosing the type of pitcher you'd like to be (or the position your OF will play) should have been an option from the get-go. I've tried three times, all with different ratings and pitches and still only make a MR.
