Pitch selection

I was curious about the ways that a pitcher's pitch selection affect the game. The game text indicates that more is better, but how much difference does adding another make? Does the combination of pitches matter or are any pitches ok? Are some pitches tied more heavily than others to specific abilities?

On a different note, what happened to my "What's wrong" thread?

Pitch types are ONLY for pbp or show right now.
