July 5: Called up to MLB
July 6: Demoted to AAA
July 7: Released
Next season: Signed as FA by the same team
Next day: Released
Two months later: Signed as FA.... by the same team yet again.

This used to happen (and may still happen) a lot in OOTP. There is a really cool thread about one player who yo-yo between AAA and the Majors for alomst a month.

I can't escape the team. I ended up signing as a FA with another team the next season. As soon as I signed I was immediately traded back to the Schizophrenic GM in Kansas City.

Clearly my player is cursed. I'm doomed to be taunted by KC's GM.

Pitcher? There is a bug in ITP (and OOTP5) that does that. When I'm bringing a pitcher up through the farm in ITP, I have yet to have one that DIDN'T get sent up to AAA/down to AA or other levels multiple times per day.
