Bought a book on power, figuring maybe I'd give it a shot to see if I could get over my max potential (it didn't).
When I went to sell the book, it was gone. This doesn't make sense. Any other product you can sell after you have no use for it, making up for some of the cost of the updated item. Books, however, you can't sell after you use them. You can sell them as you're reading them if they haven't been applied to you (and if you've read the book several times without learning anything), but the moment you learn something from it (or in the case of maxed potential, learned that you couldn't get any higher), it disappears. I understand the concept of why you'd want the book to disappear, keeping someone from reading the same book over and over, succeeding at what the book was supposed to accomplish, but getting more and more out of it for the price of one book. But at least make it available to sell. Maybe you can't read it, but you should be able to at least sell it.

Since it boosts your ratings, the book is used up when you successfully read it. Being able to sell it would be double dipping.

So it's more like a magic scroll?

There must be ways to make more sense. Like selling books to used book stores with a much cheaper price tag. It's not hard to balance the economy if the prices are set right.

Or at least make the books cheaper. Books are pretty much the same price as comparable other items (such as bats, gloves, etc), but have absolutely no resale value. With books doing little other than speeding up the process players obtain their max level (at least with batters), I find little to no use in reading books as a batter. As a pitcher, their importance grows, but I still think this is an area that needs to be tinkered with more.
Hitters who are foolish enough to buy a book but have max level at the area they're trying to improve lose it immedately after they would normally learn something, but upon finding out they're maxed, both learn that they can't do anything the book would give them, plus they can't sell the book back. Someone else had suggested reading books as being a way to increase talent maxes. I think this could work, as real players can use instructional material to further develop their hitting eye, their hitting skill, fielding ability, and develop more power to their swing. Perhaps not as a "book", but through other means, like video equipment. There are a lot of ways to go with this. Say your max power is 30. You can get books on weight training or "power hitting" that increase your max potential slowly, or have the option of buying steroids that could increase your max quicker and by a larger amount, but also need to be constantly maintained (and of course run the risk of health concerns and suspension - hopefully the IPB has better policies regarding that). I've played this game for a few days now, and while it lacks in a lot of areas, it's an excellent framework, and by releasing it to the masses and getting the feedback, I expect future patches and future editions of the game to be chock full of improvements.
