Ultimate Workout for Young Hitters
For all of you hitters struggling with not getting boosts in Potential after you have maxed out your initial ratings, try this workout. I am now on my third character with it (2 Normal level guys and my current Horror level player). Each time, after I reach my initial max level, I start getting 10 points bumps from the Gym in Contact, Power and Gap almost immediately.
Once I reach the new level, I soon get another 10 point increase. Sometimes it happens during the season, and sometimes it occurs during the offseason. Example: My current Horror level player started out at Contact 10, Power 10 and Gap 10 (I went for Eye 100, Speed 70 and Basestealing 100 with the limited setup points available at this level). Now at age 25, I am at Contact 40, Power 50 and Gap 60 at the start of the season. Your RPG ratings don't seem to matter...I have gotten 40 points worth of extra Power even though my Strength is 0. Here is the workout: Sunday: (Morning) DB Squats, (Evening) Leg Press, Lower Flex Plus Monday: (Morning) Lower Flex, (Evening) Fielding Drills Plus Tuesday: (Morning) Bench Press, (Evening) Seated Long Row, Upper Flex Plus Wednesday: No workout Thursday: (Morning) Crossover Power Step, (Evening) Dot Drill, Leg Flex Plus Friday: (Morning) Fielding Drill Plus, (Evening) None Saturday: (Morning) Wrist Extension, (Evening) Wrist Twist, Arm Flex Plus Energy Level 70/100 Ratio 1.56 This workout also slowly improves your Fielding and Speed, depending on your playing time and initial levels. One other note...my guy has a Charisma of 3, which gets me free Contact and Eye points from the Bar at about a 50% success rate. That helps reach the initial and new Potential levels that much quicker. Before anyone asks, no, I have never gotten an increase in Eye potential trying numerous approaches, which was why I maxed it out at the beginning. Let me know how it works for you. I think my workout is going pretty well right now, but if someone else confirms this...I'll give it a try.

It Works!
I applied this exact workout schedule to my 28yr old defensive stud rightfielder. Within 2 years he improved 20pts in gap, 10pts in contact and 10pts in power! He's looking like an all-star now instead of just a good outfielder.
Seeing is believing.. Thanks! |

I tried it too. Working GREAT! I have tried modifying it for a pitcher (i.e. Changed Running Speed related workouts to Long Toss/Running and Hitting Skill workouts to Pitching Skill workouts).
Will advise how it works, but my machine is so slow I don't know when that will be.... Tneu - If you have any thoughts on the best way to do this, let us know. BTW - How did you ever come up with such an awsome workout?? |

Thanks guys. When the game first came out, I fooled around with different combinations, but it wasn't until I added the comparable stretches on the same day and threw in plenty of rest that I had good success.
Initially, I (and probably most players) thought that a lot of Batting Practice would raise the levels, but this wasn't the case. You really have to have a balanced workout to raise the levels. |

thanks tneu! I was never able to get increases from larry before but now I've gotten 6 in the past 2 years. One modification I made though was alter the Friday workout to Batting Practice Plus instead of Fielding Practice Plus in the morning and added another BPP in the evening. I found for whatever reason that my power wasn't raising without any batting practice. As soon as I made the change, the power rating maxed out and I've received two increases. I believe the energy level dropped to 68/100 but no big deal.

Good job tneu! I'm sold...
At 18 years old on normal: Contact: 40 Eye: 90 Power: 20 Gap: 20 At 26 years old: Contact: 70 (+30) Eye: 90 (no change) Power: 70 (+50) Gap: 70 (+50) That's 130 points and a change from a 2 1/2 star player to a 4 1/2 star! Not too shabby.

I concur, this is outstanding. From 22 to 25 I increased my STR +40, GAP +20 and CONT +10. I usually never realized gains until my 30's.
I also changed the Fielding+ workouts to Bat Practice+. I had my boy created already strong defensivey. Props to tneu.

Just curious...as you age and the ratio drops do you tweak the workout or keep it the same?

I tweak it a little...look for less strenuous exercises in the same group to keep the ratio near what it tells you.
Incidentally, my oldest character played until 41, and he was still maxed out at 39. His ratings started dropping initially at 36, but through the bar and workouts, they kept going back up. For instance, I'd notice my Contact would drop from 80 to 75, then a few weeks later it'd be back to 80. He didn't totally fall apart until age 40. I shouldn't say he fell apart - his ratings were still very good (50's), but no one would sign me to a contract. Also, do not to read books while you are developing. When you're old (but very rich), you can buy them all to prop up sagging ratings. Last edited by tneu; 01-17-2004 at 02:54 AM. |

OK..1st player using this workout: Here's my starting point (max) and where I'm at after developing...
Contact: 90...100 Power: 10.....50 Gap:.....30.....80 The only thing not increasing is eye. Great job in designing this. (This player started on normal by the way)

Has anyone had their max potential go up, and immediately have
their actual value jump to almost the new max? This past season I went Cont +10 Pow +10 Gap +20. The first gap jump I went from 50(50) to 59(60) when the jump took place. Not sure if that was supposed to happen or not. The second time only the potential went up, and had to work up to it. I use basically the same workout about, but with a couple more batting sessions.

I haven't..the max goes up but the actual stays where it was. Then develops. Doesn't seem to take much time though to max out again.

Anyone have a modification to this to improve fielding and/or speed/stealing. I'm getting bumps in contact and gap and the gap fills in with in a few months, the contact a bit longer, my eye was 90 from the get go and still has yet to max but it is climbing, power creaps along.
I need to boost the speed and stealing. Books are barely helping and getting money for them is tough, I've gotten some moeny from the owner for that. I'm using the workout as is no modifications, looking for ideas. I've tried adding fast running on friday during the off season, but it does not help, and during the year would cut me from 70 to 66 for rest , I'm a lead off CF who doesn't take many days off, so I need to stay rested. |

Yeah, I have the same problem. My Gap went from 10 to 100 in about 7 seasons, HR Power from 10 to 50. But everything else is slow. My contact just turned to 50, but takes a long time to max the potential, making my guy hit like .220 only.
I thought it was perhaps my speed being set originally at 90 (went up to 100), that I get such dramatic improvements in Gap Power. Does Dexterity have anything to do with improvements in contact? I put one point in Dex, so I thought it might be the reason for my .220 BA.

This workout is almost too good. I created a character who was supposed to be fast and hit for a solid average, bat either 1 or 2. But after a few years on the Ultimate Workout program, his gap power has maxed out, and his power has gone from 10 to 80 and there's no end in sight.
I bet many fans are privately accusing him of using steroids by now. Brett |

I have not had that level of success with it. My gap did go from 50 to 80 and my power from 50 to 70 but thats it.
