I can, though as always, I'd rather not drag the developers in unless it's important. You are certain that you (and your owners) want to continue to upload (and download) new image files every sim? Unless a player changes teams, a new image would most likely consist of a guy looking slightly more or less happy and maybe being pictured from a slightly different angle. Most leagues that I've seen tend to limit league image updates to one or two times a season. Furthermore, the in-game download tends to be slower than doing it out of game, so most leagues tend to update images outside of the game.
So yeah, I can ping Andreas if you really want, but do you actually want it?

I think the main thing that's important to me is that Andreas is at least aware of the problem and that it's something we can look forward to having fixed for OOTP 9. For the short term, no, this isn't something so critical that I want you to be put in a tough spot to accommodate us. If it's a case of living with this extra step until we upgrade to OOTP - something we intend to do at this point - I can live with that.
However at some point I would indeed like to be able to resume sending pictures as part of the each league update. There's enough work as it is after a sim to be adding extra steps. And after all, it's pretty clearly a bug and I'm sure the developers want those squashed wherever possible. So I guess I'm saying that I'll be satisfied knowing that the issue is logged and on the docket to be fixed for the next version of the game. As long as that's the case then there's no need to drag Andreas over to try to fix this right this instant. We can save that for the faces.dat bug that's going to wipe out all our pictures after our next season. ![]() |

I'm not sure that it's a normal bug, per se, but an indication of something not quite right with your league files. Sporr, for instance, mentioned that he didn't have any trouble with the feature when running his league.

Oh no doubt about it: the problem's somewhere within my files, just like the faces.dat issue and the nearly 4,000 "phantom" teams bloating my database. Still, it's causing the game to behave in a way it shouldn't, so I'd have to consider that a bug. And if it can happen to me, it's possible it can happen to someone else. So like I said, I'm fine with doing things the way we're doing for now, but I would like to know that this problem is at least logged as a bug and under examination for the next version of the game.

Okay, I tipped Andreas off to this thread as well. Maybe it could help lead to an explanation for your other FaceGen troubles. If we can't reproduce it with another league, it won't do much good to log it separately.

That's outstanding, thank you very much Nutlaw. Hopefully these problems will be intertwined like you guess and a solution to one leads to a solution to the other. For now we'll keep doing our out-of-game picture updates. Best of luck to Andreas, and thanks again Nutlaw for the assistance!

Can you please PM me the link and password again so I can test it with your league files?

Corsairs, any update on this? Have you sent your files along to Andreas again?

Sorry, I should have posted that I did send Andreas a PM with links to my files. Haven't heard back, but I assume he's got a hold of them.
I ran a test last night to see if faces.dat still became corrupt during the second season with OOTP 8 (previous tests were with OOTP 2007). Sadly it does still go bad, so my league is still on the clock with that problem. I'm hoping that the images and faces.dat problem end up being related; if so, having my file (which exhibits both problems) for testing might help isolate the cause of both problems. EDIT: I'm too slow! Good to know Andreas has the files. Good luck with them!Last edited by Corsairs : 01-20-2008 at 09:21 AM. |

Yes, thank you. It's still the good old "save faces.dat" problem. I know what it is, but still don't know why it happens.

This one was claimed fixed for OOTP 9. (The faces.dat issue.)

That's outstanding news. I'm as enthusiastic as can be to get my hands on OOTP 9 now (not that I wasn't already)! Thanks for reporting this Nutlaw, and thank you Andreas/Markus for getting this bug squashed!

Funny. I ran into this when unzipping a backup copy of our league to correct a problem a few seasons ago. For some reason, the game thought that all of the players needed new photos. Not just different angles, but entirely new faces. It has since happened in another online league that I'm in, and it was caused by the same reason. I'm not sure what about the unzipping process causes the game to do this. Hopefully, this fix will take care of this issue as well.
