Game crashes when promoting coaches

I've tried promoting a pitching coach from AAA to the major leagues, and the game always crashes when I do this. Has anyone else had this problem?

I use Vista and am using OOTP 8. The problem occurrs when I try to "appoint as" a AAA pitching coach as the major league pitching coach. Below is the error that I get.

There does not seem to be a patch for OOTP 8 on the download page:

Your major league pitching coach spot was empty? If so, this is a known issue. You should be able to promote him if there is another pitching coach in the major leagues to swap him with.

Yes, the spot was empty.

I'm not sure I understand your solution. Are you saying hire another coach to fill the major league spot, and then swap him with the AAA coach? I thought coaches could refuse to be demoted (which is what would happen to the new major league coach that I would sign and swap out).

Yes, that's the only way to make it happen. You can't promote a coach or scout to an empty position without the game crashing.
