BZ 1785: High CPU usage
When OOTP is closed and nothing else open, the CPU usage is around 0% - 1%.
As soon as I open OOTP and sit there idle, the CPU usage stays around 50% - 58%, is this normal? |

I'm seeing 0-1% when my computer is idle, with OOTP open or not.
I'm seeing up to 50% when OOTP is actively doing something like opening up or simming. Have you seen this on multiple occasions? Are you sure that nothing else was running in the background, like a virus scan?

Thanks! Obviously, by now you've probably gathered that this isn't normal! ![]() Steve |

How often is Outlook Express checking for new mail? Mine is set pretty frequently and I found closing it improved my processing slightly.

That may not be the actual usages. Sometimes this figure is out of whack on some computers, especially using Vista. I had the same problem when I had Vista on my computer. I finally switched back to XP and the usage was much improved.
You might want to try a program that will free up some of your memory. I am and have always used FreeRam XP Pro. I even used it with Vista and it worked. The program is free. Just google the name and it will find it for you. Worth a try, anyway.

I have 3 GB of memory.. so that's DEFINITELY NOT the issue. Something with the game and my pc is screwy.. the trouble is finding out what the issue is. |

MizzouRah, did you try uninstalling and then reinstalling? I was having a similar issue before the latest patch (CPU usage was staying at 100% when idle at times). It went away after I installed the patch. I thought it was fixed because of the patch. But I always do a clean install when a new version comes out. so maybe that's what fixed it for me. its worth a try. Delete all your ootp folders after you uninstall too (under my docs, program files).
