I guess all I'm saying is that it's not like some of the things in OOTP where the numbers are only relative to each other (i.e. you can have 80 + 40 + 40 and OOTP will figure out the relative percentages), this is in firm 1 to 100 percent as far as I can tell.
Turns out I'm wrong here. From Andreas:

They are .png files with alpha channel transparency. Whatever style you come up with, make sure you do it in all 5 colors. Andreas talks a little about the hair files here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...75#post2140275

Question Beard Frequency Settings

Using Bobble's Mod - what should the numbers be under frequency?

Whatever you like. They need not add up to 100. Personally, I have "no beard" at about 40 or so and most of the others at about 2 or so. You'll end up with more than half of the guys with beards and a fair variety of facial hair in the rest. For any style you don't like, just set them to 0 frequency.

First of all great stuff Bobble, as usual.

I can't see to alter the frequency of the elvis look in the game, any idea why?

Thanks.

Bobble, if I may . . .

The elvis look is a hair style. From his readme file:
Quote:
There is currently no way in OOTP to set the frequency of the hair files. If you would like the game to use the default hair more frequently than the added hair files, make copies of the default hair files (5 of them for each of the 5 hair colors) and rename them hair_5_#_short.png, hair_6_#_short.png, etc. To my knowledge, the game selects a hair file randomly so if you add 2 more copies of the default, then about half the players would have the default hair and half would have one of the three new hair files.
You can probably do the same thing with the elvis style.

This gives me the opportunity to offer my own compliments and thanks to Bobble for his fine work. This is a marvelous community with talented people like Bobble working in conjunction with the game developers so that people like me can sit back and enjoy their handiwork. That OOTP/SI is a business trying to make a profit seems secondary to the enthusiasm and fun.

Totally agree. Being an OOTPler for six years now and always come back and enjoy the board and community more than most other message boards I'm on.

I love this mod also. Regarding the above, what should "#" be in your example above? I'm a little slow today (it is Monday, after all). Can you be a little more detailed with the instructions to get the default to show up more than the new hair styles? Thanks..

Let me try to rephrase it all. Each hair style (even the default) is there in 5 colors. Each style/color is a seperate .png file. The file names are of the format "hair_{style set}_{hair color number}_short.png. One hair style set would include the files named hair_2_1_short.png + hair_2_2_short.png + hair_2_3_short.png + hair_2_4_short.png + hair_2_5_short.png. That would be one hair style (say, long sideburns even though it doesn't say it) in each of the 5 hair colors. That set happens to be one of the ones I made.

The game doesn't allow you to set the frequencies of the hair styles like it does for beards. It works solely on the number of hair style sets of files. So, when you add three more hair style sets, the game picks randomly from the number of sets. It has 4 sets now so your chances of getting the original default hair (set hair_1_#_short) is 1 in 4. If you want to increase the chance of getting the default hair style set to show up, copy these 5 files:

hair_1_1_short.png
hair_1_2_short.png
hair_1_3_short.png
hair_1_4_short.png
hair_1_5_short.png

Paste them in the same directory. And change the "_1_" to "_5_" to rename them:

hair_5_1_short.png
hair_5_2_short.png
hair_5_3_short.png
hair_5_4_short.png
hair_5_5_short.png

Now, you have 5 hair style sets. The game will choose randomly from those five so you now have a 2 in 5 chance of getting the default set since both set "hair_1_..." and set "hair_5_..." are the default hair style. You could repeat the process and make another set that is of the form hair_6_#_short.png, and you would end up with a 3 in 6 chance of getting the default hair style.

Is that any clearer?

I noticed in another thread from last year, you were experimenting with adding little touches like eye black and earrings, etc. What ever happened with that?

It can be done but only with the hair file sets. Those are the files that you can't set the frequency in-game. So, if I made a "short hair plus eye black" hair style file set, it would appear too frequently. One in 4 or 5 guys would have eye black unless you made a boatload of duplicate default hair files. It didn't seem practical, really.

Hey, Bobble. Don't stop pimpin' your gloving moods! I use that exclusively to replace all of the smilies. To me, along with your facial hair, it's indispensable.

I'm glad you like them. Funny, I use the thumbs up ones exclusively. I started a new league on another computer and the default mood icons showed up. "What the hell are those things!" I thought.

Bobble...

Can you come up with something new for the quickstart mentioned here?

Probably. Once the name is settled on, I might be able to come up with some sort of custom mood and/or status icons. Is that what you're thinking of? Problem is that I don't think that stuff is included in a Quickstart. Is there going to be a custom skin for the league? They could go in there.
