Is there any chance this has any relevance?

Did you just tell AVG to stop scanning, or did you totally unload it from memory?

I'm tempted to ask you to completely uninstall AVG, and then trying OOTP. I'm suspicious of AVG.

But, I know that's a lot to ask!

Tried excluding those files from AVG, no dice.

Completely removed AVG, turned off UAC, uninstalled OOTPX, rebooted, installed OOTPX, still no dice.

Quite the challenge, huh? Hard to imagine I'm having such trouble with OOTPX, yet OOTP9 works fine (although that is running through Steam)...

*scratches head*

Argh. This is driving me bonkers. I wish I had a Vista machine here, although I suspect I wouldn't be able to reproduce it anyway...

Let me see if I can think of anything else...

Just curious, if you have UAC disabled, what happens when you try to run it? Obviously, you won't get the "allow/deny" message, right?

I'm also having a problem. I'm running Vista 64-bit SP2 on a LG 24" monitor at resolution 1920x1080. I went to the link, downloaded OOTP X and double-clicked on it on my desktop. Nothing happens. I don't have a Ani-virus software running.

Mike, can you please create a separate thread for your issue? It may not be the same thing at all...

Thanks!

Whew -- got 'er working. Here's what happened.

Tried installing to a different directory -- no dice.

Made sure Data Execution Prevention was set to exclude ootpx.exe. No dice.

Completely turned off Data Execution Prevention -- success!

Changed Data Execution Prevention to just hit key Windows files -- success.

Put everything else on system back to normal (UAC on, AVG installed, uninstalled OOTPX, rebooted system, re-installed OOTPX to default directory) -- it worked. Only system change -- left Data Execution Prevention in "just key Windows files" mode.

Never liked DEP anyway, so I'm gonna leave it like that. For others who are having trouble and seeing nothing happening when you double-click the OOTPX icon, though, perhaps turning off DEP might be a place to start.

Thanks to so many for the great support today!

Awesome!!

We will definitely hang onto this information! Honestly, this is the happiest I've been today.

I'll tell ya, helping someone who is nice about working through a tough problem is a pleasure. Makes all of the difference in the world!
