BZ 3245: Expansion Draft Crashes Game

I setup a fictional/historical league. PC user.

All historical teams, but in a promotion/regulation format, from 1907-1961.

8 teams in a Premier League, 8 in the 1st Division.
Winner of the 1st Division moves up to the Premier League every season on January 1st, while the last place team in the Premier League moves down.

Settings On:
Adjust League Strategy
Import Financials
Recalc every 3 years
Adjust League Totals
Import Historical Rookies w/no draft

I simmed 1907 to 1961 with absolutely no issues. Every season on January 1st I moved one team up, and one team down.

So in 1961 it was time for expansion -- and on 1/1/1961 I went and attempted to add the Minnesota Twins & Los Angeles Angels to the 1st Division via the Functions Tab - Expand League & Expansion Draft.

I then targeted each team to 1st Division, and gave them correct names and Abbreviations.

Then I checked the box to Schedule Expansion Draft -- it was not checked before, and had each team protect 25 players.

I then click on Expand League. The game just locks up and stalls until I get a message it isn't responding. I gave it over 20 minutes.

So because it was just the offseason and not the preseason, I advanced to the start of the preseason on 2-12-1961 and try it then.

This time I did everything the same (the only difference was that when I went to expand the league, the box was already checked for Schedule Expansion Draft per the game).

When I clicked on Expand League...same thing....doesn't respond.

This issue is preventing me from continuing my sim, which started in 1907.

Just a note: I saw another issue close to this one, but in that scenario they had automatic expansion ON. In my situation I have it OFF since I move teams between leagues each season.

Just to add a variable, maybe my regenerating of the schedule on Jan 1st is causing a conflict when the league attempts to generate the schedule again.....no idea though.
But if you are trying to recreate it, switch two teams between leagues, and regenerate the schedule first.

here's another variable, which may be causing the problem -- but should it?

I started this league by creating a Historical League with full minors (AAA, AA, A) - year 1907 16 teams - call it League A.

I then created another new Historical League - year 1907 16 teams - with no minor league system.
call it League B.

I then deleted all teams & players out of League B.
Then I moved 8 teams from League A into League B.
This way I could keep it historical and use the recalc & progressing options for all of the real players that would be within League B. (future players would come via free agency from League A)

However, because all of the teams in League B started in League A -- they share the same minor league systems. This way there is only one minor league system for both leagues.

Would this cause the crash -- and should it? Simming this way has always worked fine. Even though it displays the affiliate teams as just blank in the drop down option -- the minor league teams are still affiliated with the teams in League B, and it works fine -- outside of it crashing right now of course.

pbar, thanks for all of the information. You have me completely baffled, but at any rate, the game should NEVER crash regardless of which options you choose, so I've logged this as BZ 3245, and will ask Markus to take a look.

It may help if you upload your league files (just the .dat files) to our FTP server.

Thanks!

Steve

I will definitely need the league files in order to reproduce this. Can you please upload them as per Steve's advice and then email me please (markus@ootpdevelopments.com)? Thanks

thanks very much for the response
unfortunately I found some things that needed tweaking in that league regarding my results and decided to just start completely over, and when I did I deleted that original file.

I'm running another sim within essentially the same format and have not been able to duplicate the crash yet - the expansion draft is working great when I test it.
But it will be some time before I can get back to 1961 for a duplicate test.

The only factor I will not have the same will be two different leagues sharing one minor league system, because it appears I'm just not supposed to do that? So it's not really the games fault, because I think my setup was illegal. But maybe, what should have happened is that the game should not have advanced and prompted me that my setup was illegal?

When you move one team into a different league, but do not move their minor league teams anywhere -- the minor league teams remain as affiliations within the transactions page and in spirit (AAA, AA, A). Everything works correctly just as before with relation to the Minors, even though the team's minor league teams are still part of the former league.

However, within the Names & Affiliations tab under Game Setup, the minor league teams of the moved team no longer list any affiliation, it's just blank.

And because the team has been moved into a different league, if you attempt to click on the Affiliation drop down menu in order to pick a team -- their actual team will not be listed.

And because clicking on that drop down menu resets something, they are no longer affiliated with their actual team from that point forward.
So I just would not touch it, left the affiliations blank, and kept all of the minor league teams in place.

I would have to imagine that the issue involves how the game is dealing with the Affiliation drop down menu being blank when the expansion button is pushed. If I can duplicate it I'll certainly share it, sorry I deleted it.

Since we were not able to reproduce this, and the OP has moved on, I'm going to go ahead and close this issue.

Thanks,

Steve
