Various problems in the financials.txt file
The financials.txt file is really quite messed up. There are a couple of issues I've seen logged, but a couple I haven't. Here are issues I've seen:
1. The header row has lots of extra " marks all over, which screws up opening the file in Excel. (not logged) 2. The media contract numbers seem ridiculously low for every year. I mean, the game's default is $25 million, and in the financial.txt file it never gets past the $600K range. (not logged) 3. The 2009 line is missing cash maximum, which throws all the other values off (logged). There may be other issues I haven't found. This file needs to be redone.

In regards to #2, the values in the file were selected so that relatively era-appropriate player salaries would be generated. To get that, much of the other financial data must, of necessity, depart from reality quite a bit.
Spritze authored the new financials.txt file with the above goal in mind. In his testing it achieved the goal, or at least, better than the prior financials.txt file did. Realistic figures in all the various financial areas (e.g. ticket prices, media revenue, player salaries, etc.) is going to have to wait until the financial model in OOTP is redone, as I don't think the current system is robust enough to do it.

Sorry for the lack of reply - reopening and moving.
![]() The problem for me is that the 2009 numbers in the roster set that comes with the game seem to work fine, yet the 2009 numbers in the file are very different. Why not base the historical figures on 2009 numbers that are like the roster set?

The 2009 line was added by an unknown contributor and is just plain wrong. Many of that lines numbers are misstypes and/or comma delimiters were messed up. I suspect a fix will appear in the patch.

Even then, the 2008 line is a departure from the set that comes with the game.

Also...there is another issue here. Let's say I switch the league settings to 1918, and then go back to 2009. The Traditional PCM's *DONT* switch back to 2009, they stay at 1918, or whatever year you went to.
Edit: Just saw that if you try and go to 2009 or 2008, it won't switch, but if you go to 2007, it will. Last edited by ryanivr; 06-12-2009 at 01:44 PM. |

I'm away from home and won't be back until tomorrow night. Haven't downloaded a patch yet. I'll see then, I suppose.
