Problems since installing patch

The game was running fine pre-patch (in Windows). I tried applying just patch #2, then tried the full install over the old install, then tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and finally tried uninstalling and reinstalling in a new folder, but every time, as soon as I launch the game, I get "error - could not find /facegen folder" followed by various "TEMPLATES ENGINE:load template file..." messages.

I can begin the process of starting a new league, but no cities or nicknames show up during the league creation process.

When I go to load an old saved game (pre-patch), I get this message: "Nation::import_flag_image - unable to move down into nation_flags directory" and the game freezes solid.

Obviously, something is very wrong!

#1) One possibility is that this has to do with the fact that I am not installing to the default location. (I cannot -- volume C is for the operating system, but does not have the kind of space needed for these saved games.... all my games must go in volume D)

#2) I am also uneasy over the fact that I copied my license to a different folder, then did an uninstall. Yet, regardless of what folder I re-install OOTPX to, the license magically reappears there. I have this suspicion that whatever mechanism is copying the license to the new folder is also copying some corruption, such that a reinstall is not actually a clean start.

#3) As an experiment, I tried to reinstall the original, unpatched OOTPX (I still had the setup files since offered a mirror server) and it exhibits the same problems now.

#4) However, OOTP9 continues to work properly.

Beorn:
I'm also in DDB (COT).
I installed the first patch and then installed the second patch over it.
My game install location is not the default location and my data files are not stored in the default directory either.
The ddb league starts up fine and i was able to download the latest game file.
Fyi, I run Windows XP with all latest patches and SPs.

Not sure what's causing your problem.

Beorn, please try this:

1. Back up any important leagues or custom files.

2. Uninstall the game.

3. Check for ootp 10-related folders on your machine. My Documents is a suspicious location. Delete them all.

4. Restart your machine.

5. Reinstall the full version of the game.

I had the same problem in beta installing to a non-standard directory, when I installed the patch to the default location by mistake, and step 3 above was the key to getting it to work again.
