Dave....

When you install do you use the same download?
(i.e have you downloaded the latest patch again...just in case of corruption)

When you install do you have your firewall/anti-virus disabled?

When you uninstall do you use the game's uninstall?

It may be that a patch has installed a file that subsequent re-installs don't over-write.
Try getting rid of everything OOTP....
Saved games the lot.(If it's a league that you would like to keep, move it. Or better still back it up to somewhere safe

)
OOTP tends to install files/folders in quite a few places (would be more specific but I'm on XP).

Once you have started a fresh (even down to restarting the PC...worth a try...but shouldn't need to unlicence) install from a newly downloaded install file.

Well, not sure what it was, but I deleted everything from everywhere and the bugger works!

Thanks for your help - I have my game back, albeit with no saves (I got rid as I'd lost touch over the months of not playing)
