Ubuntu 9.04 x64 install problem

I tried to install OOTP10 on a desktop with an ATI Radeon X1550 graphics card running Ubuntu 9.04 x64. The X1550 is one of the cards that ATI has dropped support for, so there is no propietary driver for the new X/kernel in Ubuntu 9.04. When I execute ootp10linuxsetup, I get an error message:

Code:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 72 (X_PutImage)
Serial number of failed request: 903
Current serial number in output stream: 904
It looks like someone else may have had a similar problem here: X error in linux ;oddly though, he was able to install.

The glxinfo command outputs 'direct rendering: Yes'.

I'm not sure what x86 libs i need?

Before I roll back to Ubuntu 8.10, I want to be more sure that video driver compatibility is the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I get the exact same message when trying to install on Ubuntu 9.04 x64 and can't seem to find a fix. Anybody have any ideas on this?

Well, it's good to know I'm not alone... do you have an ATI video adapter?

Have you managed to get the game installed yet?

Since OOTP does not really required graphics accelleration, have you tried configuring X with the generic radeon X driver. Just a random thought.

Thanks; I will look at that this weekend. Just to clarify (since I'm no linux expert!), from what I understand that since there is no propietary driver for my video card, I am already using the generic (open-source) radeon X driver. Is that the driver you were referring to?
