Linux install issue

I installed OOTP X on my Linux system (Kubuntu 9.04) and it didn't really work but from the start. I installed the tar file and unpacked it, but instead of a folder I got one file which was useless. I looked it up on the forums and someone suggested using the following the console

tar xvf ootp10linuxsetup.tar.gz
chmod 755 ootp10linuxsetup
./ootp10linuxsetup

That got the installer up and running so I thought I was in business until I went to open the program and got the error

OOTP found that the crashed_on_startup flag is set. Obviously the game crashed when you started it last time. OOTP will reset.

I did some research and apprently the game should still load but mine just crashes.

In one of the forums I read battists had said he had fixed it with the other person having the same problem, but they did it through email so I have no idea what they did to fix it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Still having this problem? Can you try to start the game from the terminal command line and post the resulting messages here? Please include the command that you used to start it up. Also include as much detail about you system as possible.

I gave up and stuck it on the Vista portion of my laptop. Thanks for posting though.
