Online setup / league load failing
Hi, all. Hopefully someone can help me out here.
I have the latest Mac version (10.2.18) and created an online league file. When one of my owners loads the initial league file (he's using a Vista PC with 10.2.16), he gets this error message: Error ERROR:000C Path type constant passed to function FOLDER::set() was invalid The only option is to click "ok" and the game fails to load. He seems to have copied the league file I sent him to his "saved_games" directory properly, because the league name shows up in the list when he selects "Load game" from the main screen. But, when he tries to load, it fails with this error message. I'm assuming it doesn't have anything to do with Mac vs. PC, right? I know all online managers need to run the same version as the commish, but that's not possible in the Mac/PC realm. Macs need to run 10.2.18 for the licensing to work properly, and the ".18" release doesn't exist in the PC world. Any ideas? If you need more info, please ask. Also - just to be sure I understand the process of creating/loading online leagues for the first time (I have not done this before): I created the league on my Mac and uploaded the league file to the server. For the first time, I assume each owner needs to manually download and extract the league file, save it to his "saved_games" folder, then load the game in OOTP. From there, the owner could then select "load online league file" from the game menu for any future updates. But, I assume the first load has to be manually done. Am I following the correct process? The user's manual skips over this part. EDIT: the other owner in the league (with the Mac running 10.2.18) loaded the initial league file just fine. So, this is only occurring on the PC owner's machine. Is it a version issue? If so, how can we solve it? How do we Mac owners ever match the PC version? Thanks! No, I can't imagine it's a Mac/PC thing. There are hundreds of people playing online leagues without conflict and I'm sure they have mixed operating systems.
The section you wrote starting with 'Also-' should be correct. Download and extract manually, then open the league in-game and update as you described. One question: does it crash to desktop when the load fails or does it go back to the main OOTP screen (with Fenway Park in the background)? I'm not a computer expert, so the only things I think of are the basic things. Are the files actually extracted into the folder? All the program needs to see it in the list is just a folder with an .lg extension; it could be completely empty as far as OOTP is concerned. Did the extraction create a folder inside of a folder? Sorry I can't be of more help.

Got it.
Thanks for the reply!
I helped my owner thru the issue, and I figured out what happened. For some reason, his PC wasn't extracting the compressed file correctly, so the two subfolders that were supposed to be in the league folder (messages and news) were not folders. His extraction just turned them into binary 0 KB sized-files named messages and news. So, I had him delete those two and manually create the folders. Bingo. I then told him to go buy a Mac.
