Blank email messages

One of my online league owners is saying that his messages (the "emails" inside the OOTP game) are all blank. He sees that he has messages, but when he clicks on one, it is blank. No message itself. The one other online manager has no issues seeing his messages. (There are three of us playing this online.)

The one having problems is on a PC, using version 10.2.16. Others, including me, are using Mac with version 10.2.18.

All other league/team functions seem to be working properly for him ... except for this problem with his messages.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. If more info is needed, just ask. Thanks!

Has it been a while since he downloaded an updated league file? I've noticed with my online leagues that if I don't download the file every time, I'll have a bunch of blank messages from the time between updates.

I believe that is the problem. If you miss a sim or two and then update the file if the length of time that has simmed is greater than the "save messages for x days" field then the messages.dat file knows there is a message but there is no related message_xxxx.txt file to match up to it.

This is something that isn't an issue with the game as the option for setting the amount of text messages to be uploaded is a user option. Obviously setting this really high to deal with cases where people don't always download could lead to larger online league files

That's not it, though. It's just the three of us in this league, and everybody downloads the new updated league file each time. I sim one week at a time, then a new league file is generated. So, he hasn't missed one yet.

Maybe I need to manually replicate his messages somehow? Maybe send him the messages folder manually? Or should I put "0" in the box for messages from last X days... so it includes all messages in the next league file I upload?

Also, does each manager have his own messages folder? I'm wondering that because clearly every manager gets different messages in their inbox. How does that work? Can I send him just his messages?

Thanks!

Exactly. Try that and if it works, there were messages missing. Could be a commish mistake: simming a week and only sending the messages of the last 3 days, for example?

Thanks, Andreas. A manual resend of the messages worked great. The root of the problem wasn't commish error... it was Windows Vista's inability to correctly unzip a ZIP file! (Or at least it was on his particular PC.)

I had originally sent the messages as a ZIP file. But, when he tried to extract that in Vista, it was not doing it properly... it left an orphan messages "file" instead of a "folder".

Once he downloaded 7-Zip to extract the ZIP file I had made of the messages folder, it worked perfectly. The files unzipped like they were supposed to, and the messages are working great now.

Thanks again!
