Arbitration and Extensions

I offered an arbitration on all of my upcoming possibles.
On some, prior to to the hearing date, i also offered a contract extension. (ver 10.2.16)

The result was that all players were awarded a contract year through arbitration.
Those who I offered an extension accepted the extension AND the extension was applied to the years after the arbitration year.
In other words a 2 year extension turned into a 3 year contracts.

Is this correct? It would seem to me the player should either accept the extension or the 1 year arbitration.

Also I noted that in two case the player was awarded an arbitration amount of $5 mill however accepted the contract extention for 2 years at $3 mill.

Your player who took less on an extension is rare IMO. He must be declining. I use arbitration as a way to get players to sign long term contracts. They are always very happy after arbitration and will sign for slightly less and for more years than at other times.

To answer your question directly, IRL the player might take the either or option. In the game you have to offer the extension earlier, in order to have them sign it before arbitration. I've done that several times. Your situation is strange because most players want too much to sign away arbitration years.

See this guy.

Yes, it does sound like the game is working properly. Contract extensions and arbitration are basically two separate processes, though IRL they are tied together. So the player both accepted the arbitration offer and the extension separately. As you noted the game applied the arbitration, then the extension.

Unfortunately, you have to kind of work this manually a little. Try to make the extension offer far enough ahead that it doesn't run into the arbitration date. If he signs an extension before the arbitration date, the arbitration offer will disappear IIRC.

Though in reality if he was offered an extension between the arb figures being submitted and the arbitration results being issued he would have decided on the extension before the arbitration hearings.

The game should treat the arbitration hearing date as a cut off point for extensions for those with arbitration.
