Crashing While Opening Messages

I am about 5 seasons in with the league that I created and every time I try to open any message I receive the game will crash. I have poked around a little bit and haven't found anything else that makes it crash either. I am running Windows 7 with 4GB of RAM and plenty of processing power. Anyone have a clue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I owned the game for a very very short time, so I'm a bit of a noob. I'm not aware of the normal troubleshooting steps with this game or how they are performed.

I really don't know, but I'm wondering if the message files just aren't there. Do you have a bunch of .txt files in your saved_games/*.lg/messages folder?

Maybe providing the info battists asks for in this thread will help someone else diagnose the problem. See the "What info..." section.

This might sound like a silly question, but what would the full path to that folder be? I've looked in "/program files/out of the park developments" and don't see anything like that at all. I have my PC set to show hidden files and folders also.

Please do your best to provide the following information:

1. What, specifically, were you doing when the problem occurred? Include the specific screen you were on when the problem occurred.
When I am on the main home page that comes up when you very first load your saved game, if I click on one of my mail messages in the window at the bottom or click on the icon to take me to my messages inbox the game will crash every time.

2. What happened? Was there an error message? If so, what was the specific message?
There isn't really an error that comes up. Windows 7 just pops up a box asking if I want to close the program or search the internet for a solution and close the program. The game itself gives no error message. Just dies.

3. Were you able to repeat the error with this same game? With another game? If so, what steps did you take?
It happens every time, and I created a second league just to see if it would do the same thing with a different league, and it still happens. So its apparently not just a problem with my league.

4. If relevant, what do you think the program should have done?
That is probably pretty obvious

5. What is your league configuration (fictional/historical, etc.)
Fictional

6. Are you a PC, Mac, or Linux user?
PC

Another real quick thought...I've thought of reinstalling the game, but I'm not sure how to do that without overwriting the saved files from my current league.

Generally, your saved_games folder will be somewhere like C:\Users\[your_name]\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10, but it might depend on your exact version of Windows and you could even move it elsewhere.

Some people suggested some things in that first thread that you might also like to try.

If you still can't get it to work then if I were you I'd unlicense, uninstall, download a fresh install and reinstall. I don't know if that would work, but if other things don't work then it might be worth a try. Others reportedly tried unsuccessfully, but maybe they didn't re-download the setup file.

EDIT: You could also do yourself and others a favour by ftping your dat files as that first link says.

No possible solution jumps out at me, but something might for someone else.

I'm pretty sure uninstalling won't overwrite your files, but just to be on the safe side you should find your saved_games/*.lg folder, zip it up and put it somewhere safe first. I recommend my steps above of the unlicensing and redownloading of the setup file though.

Ok, I uploaded my files to the ftp zipped up and named after my user name. I haven't really done much additional trouble shooting other than trying to delete some of the message files once I found them, which didn't change a thing. I will probably try unlicensing and uninstall/reinstall today and see what happens. I'm really dying to get my game working again. Not being able to play it at all is driving me nuts.

I, too, have a similar problem and cannot play the game anymore because it crashes constantly when a message pops up or I check messages.

Hi there. I'm very sorry it's taken us so long to post an "official" reply in this thread. Still, I'd like to figure out if there is still an issue here, so we can make sure it gets taken care of for OOTP 11. Are you still experiencing this problem?
