Teams stored in database that were never intended to be used
When you start a brand new career, and you go to the screen where it asks you to pick how many teams you want in each league/division, you'll notice that it has some suggested teams listed. If you hit something like (8 teams, 1 league), then click the drop-down to say (4 teams, 1 league) and go back and forth a few times, you'll notice different suggested team names popup. The game is actually adding each of those teams that displays on the screen into the teams.dat file, even if you end up never using them. As a result, every league out there has a teams.dat file that is larger than it needs to be, because it is storing all of these extraneous teams. You never see them through the GUI or during league exports, but it is just unneccessary bloat in the league files that have to get transported across the internet each sim.
e.g.: Looking at the teams.dat for my online league, there should be 270 teams, but the teams.dat file is storing 1056 teams.

It's a known issue - I've raised it every beta, as I've wanted to test if the game can cope with its limit of 2x50x50 but you'd end up with several hundred thousand 'dead' teams if you try to set it up.

What operating system are you using - it doesn't look like Windows - if so have you got a .dat decoder for Mac because I have one for Windows but it doesn't load up files saved on a Mac?

Tony, have you tried deleting the extraneous teams to see if that works?

I use WinXP. The dat file decoder is a program I wrote.

I tried it on v8, 9 and 10. There's a lot of links between files that need to be repaired as although teams.dat has a team id for each team the game uses the sequential order of the team as the team id!!! So, you have to go through all the other dats and replace the relevant ids.

since this is a known issue, is there a BZ created for it?

I'm only bumping this because Markus just posted that all 'properly reported' bugs that he 'knows about' will be fixed in OOTPXI.
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post2897453 I would just like to confirm whether reporting bugs in this forum is sufficient for them to be classified as both 'properly reported' and 'known to Markus'. Or is there some additional essential step? If there is an additional step, who is responsible and are they completing that step and how can the original bug reporter confirm this additional step has been taken?
