Issues...

I have had enough with out of the park baseball. I have never been able to finish a season without encountering some problem requiring a reinstall. After the 1st time this happened I took a hiatus for awhile before purchasing 10. I made it to a week before the play offs and I went to load the game tonight and it would not allow me to load my game. I copied my saved game folder, reinstalled, and now I find out that all the.dat files were not in my saved game folder. This would be a great game if it worked. But it never works. Dont waste your time or money buying this game!

I think this might be your issue rather than the game's. I haven't had an OOTP game crash on me in years, and the last time it happened (2007 or so) I know exactly what I did to cause the problem (trying to run the same game in two open windows).

I have played literally hundreds of seasons without issue. You're right about one thing though; the game is great when it works.

Generally there are lots of people here willing to answer questions to help solve your issues. I recommend trying that before giving up on the game entirely.

I'm thinking the thing that's not working is your computer because I've never had OOTPX crash on me and I can't recall the version number of the edition that last crashed on me. You allude to the fact that past versions have done the same thing, so that leads me to believe the problem is yours instead of OOTP's, but thanks for joining the forums just to post this.

Been playing this game for over eight years and I have never had more than the occasional crash. Perhaps, with a little more information, someone here might be able to help you get the game working smoothly for you?

Never heard of anything like this. You may want to run anti-virus or otherwise scan all your drives for bad sectors or other problems.

OOTP uses the My Documents folder to work with saved game files, and this could be a problem if you converted from Windows XP to Vista. Unfortunately, Microsoft unleashed a complete disaster with conversions of XP to Vista because of changes to folder permissions and the structure of the My Documents folder. If you're running Vista, I would check into the possibility that there is a conflict involving the folders where your saved games are kept.

However, I'm not really sure what could be causing the trouble. But like others here, I suspect a system problem, because I've never experienced a crash on any version of this game, and I've been playing since OOTP 3.

Works fine on my system. Honestly, this might be one of the most stable games I have ever played. Haven't crashed since maybe OOTP 6.5 or something...its an issue with your system, not the game.

The only save I ever lost with OOTP was in version 4 and it was not due to crash but a corrupt file. Since that time I am very good about making backups just in case, though I have never had to use one.

Not sure why reinstalling would have any effect on your save folder as it is in your documents folder, not the game installation folder, and doesn't get touched when you uninstall or reinstall. I use winrar to backup my entire save game file and have restored it on occasion to run quick tests to adjust my league totals(NOT due to a save game not loading). Never have I had an issue with .dat files being missing.

Afraid the issue is on your end and not with the game.

I have played OOTPB since OOTP3 and have rarely had a problem caused by the game. It was usually my ignorance or my computer.

Sorry, you are having problems. It is a great game.

Perhaps you should send your league file to Markus and see if he can figure out your problem. It might be worth a try.

Or get Nutlaw in Tech Support to help you.

Cant say the game has never crashed on me. But i can say for probably 99% of any crashes i have had were something i did.
Still if youve had crashes before why didnt you ask for help before purchasing another version. Sure some people can be sarcastic when you say the game sucks but for the most part a lot of people will offer and quite often can help.
Not always. I mean if it is your computer they cant help much with that but
they do try to help.
Maybe post some more info on exactly what you did and when the game crashed etc. Its kinda hard for them to help when all they know is the game crashed.

I've only been playing since OOTP 9 and with OOTPX on this computer, I have had to uninstall/reinstall several times. I even have the unlicense shortcut on my desktop. However, I keep doing it because it is a great game and my life would be less enjoyable without it. So far it has been worth the troubles I have had with it.

See........something's wrong somewhere. I bought the game, installed it, and have been playing it ever since. Its not normal to have to uninstall/install the game and definitely not anything to do with the game itself. You shouldn't have to be doing that. It can't be the norm given the sheer number of people who have had the same experience with it that I've had for many years.

Spend some time in the Tech Support forum. They will ask a ton of specific, seemingly nitpicking questions. They will also do whatever they can to straighten things out if it's the game. They have always been very helpful to me.

Yeah, with one of the versions (sorry, can no longer remember which one) I had some initial troubles, but the dudes in Tech Support really helped.

I did spend quite a lot of time in the tech forum and discovered that my Links & Bookmarks file was somehow getting corrupted. SteveM and others were very helpful. Fortunately, I have been trouble-free for a few weeks now so hopefully those problems are behind me. I do know where to go for help if I have more issues, and I appreciate how helpful everyone is in these forums.

Only problem I've ever had was getting OOTP10 to run when I originally purchased it. I got it running and have had zero problems since. I think it's the best baseball game ever..and I was afraid I'd miss graphics too much.. I think about this game when I should be working..that's how addicted I am. Hopefully any problems others are having can be resolved because I'd like this franchise to continue for the next 50 years or until I'm 6 feet under..whichever comes first.

It seems like no one still posting in this thread has a problem, so I'm going to go ahead and close this out!

Thanks,
