Draft Pick Compensation
My league has draft pick comp enabled. We're 1 sim away from Spring Training and there are still about 8 Type A Free Agents that have not even been offered contracts.
If you ask me, they aren't Type A caliber players and my GM's are correct in not wanting to give up a first rounder for them. Seeing disciplined moves is good, I think, but, what about these players? Does the Type A tag ever come off them? Once the season starts? At a certain point of the season? Next year? Ever?

Perhaps one work around that your league can allow at least temporarily is sign & trade deals where two teams work out a deal that the original team re-signs their free agent and then ships them to the other team for a player both teams agree upon giving up. This is more of a NBA type thing, but the only real workable solution I can think of in this scenerio. Otherwise the player will likely stay a Free agent until they retire.

In the BCBL, we just made a rule that as soon as opening day is played out, the first year player draft order is locked where it is. Any FA signed after that (that results in a pick) results in nothing for the former team.

How do you handle the compensation picks in the sandwich round that is automatically added by the game. As far as I know, you can't manually remove those

eMLB found out the hard way that when you use the in-game FA compensation system, no one would sign a Free Agent, ever. About halfway through the first offseason, determining what sort of FA compensation would be earned was based comparing the average yearly contract value that the Free Agent signed to a chart. That instantly broke the ice.
OOTP GM's value draft picks far more than real ones. This may be caused by several reasons. I submit this is because OOTP is more reliable/predictable development of premium draft choices, because draft picks are always signed vs being somewhat of a crap-shoot in real life, and because real GM's have intense personal financial incentives to win right away. No OOTP GM has had to pull their kids out of private high school because they couldn't pay the $130,000 a year tuition because they went 75-87. |

Obviously once the patch comes... we hope to be able to set things properly in the OOTP X game setup for the league. Last edited by snnort; 09-18-2009 at 12:02 PM. |
