File Size question

Hey guys

I run 2 leagues, my Modern League file is well over 100 megs and my Historical is around 40 megs. I'm wondering if i have items clicked on that i might not need? or is there things i can purge to reduce the file size down?

We are finishing our 3rd season in Modern and have 4 down in Historical. Any thoughts are appreciated

thanks!
Snake

using face gen images?

if you have real photo pack linked to your Modern league that may be the answer.

A possible trick to reduce your league file size

You should read the above thread if you manually upload the file outside of the game. As the uploads will continue to get larger and larger and larger as time goes on.

In one league I run, we are in our 93rd season. After about 20-30 seasons the file had gotten to be close to 100Mb. Now after working through the steps mentioned in the above thread it is always less than 30 MB in size (with a few exceptions).

thanks Alan, i'll try that. I ALWAYS upload outside of the game because more often than not i get an error message when uploading within the game. I'll try the once a week method and see what happens

Jaxx, no face gen photos used, all real photos

OK, i tried this tonight after running a sim and no dice. File size stayed the same. After it was completed, i went back and overlooked my files inside of my documents and came across 2 files that may be the cause of the problem?

my players.dat file is over 200 megs and the teams.dat file is 56 megs. All other files were under 10 megs.

thoughts??

That does seem large. How big is this league? How many leagues/countries/players/etc are there? If you have a larger size league (like tons of minors or such), your files will end up being that big and that is normal.

I was initially assuming your files used to be smaller and then grew, but based on this I'm assuming they have always been large?

I dont recall actually how big they were initially, but yes we have all the minor leagues and a recently added college and high school feeder leagues. No foreign leagues. So maybe its normal after all. It isnt causing any problems, i was just wondering for speed purposes. I appreciate your input Alan!

You didn't really answer his question. Well, not very specifically at least.

For example, the CBL has 4 leagues (1 major and 3 minor), 96 teams, 6024 players (you can easily see all this info from selecting Game > Database Info from the menu), 31 seasons (only a couple in OOTPX) and in comparison our players.dat is only 21.2MB, while teams.dat is only 17.1MB and the sim update file, which includes those large files, is only 14MB. There are things you can turn off to bring down your file size some (like replays, boxes, logs, etc), but it sounds like your main culprit may be your huge dat files. The dats do compress pretty well, but when yours are that large even when they compress they could be a problem. I just wonder if your world size explains the size of your dats or if something went wrong and they blew up from it.

The guys were right to bring up the photos though. Images typically don't compress very well if any so if you have any images at all in your sim update file you very well may want to leave them out and have them as an optional periodicly available file.
