Help Handling Trades
First of all, thank you all for the help I've been given. I've started a few threads looking for answers and I received fantastic replies. I promise I am not a mooch and will quickly get around to helping others once I am not so ignorant to things!
My question involves processing trades in online leagues. I did some searching on these forums and I just want to be crystal clear on them so I don't have a repeat of this: Quote:
2. Retrieve team uploads. 3. Make trades in the game and follow any instructions the GM's might have. 4. Sim and enjoy Anything I am missing because I am pretty sure I did it that way and the above situation happened. Thanks again |

That's the order I recommend: import the exports, process trades and other stuff, sim. Some commishes do like the switch the last two around for some reason though.
Your releasing examples sound like something someone else said. Were both teams involved in the trade human controlled? If so and you don't have it set where players get released if their DFA time runs out, then I'm puzzled. Unfortunately I haven't commished in awhile so I haven't come across that. Hopefully a current commish has some insight.

What it was (at least I think) is I accepted the teams' roster uploads and made the trade on my end. However, like a boob, I am pretty sure I imported ALL the teams again instead of just trying to grab the individual teams that had yet to do so.
Also, if anyone is reading this in the future via a search like I was, let me alert you to two things so you don't screw up like I have. If any of the vets here want to correct me, add to it, or slap me around for being a fool ... have fun! ![]() 1) Monstrous hits to a team's finances. In my example, New England traded a player named Burgess. He uploaded his team's file, I performed the trade as specified on the forum, and then foolishly downloaded his team file again. The AI says, "Oh, Burgess ain't here? Release him." Problem? He had to pay the remaining money on his contract. Since I foolishly imported New England TWICE after doing the trade, I got an IM from the GM asking, "Dude, why am I broke?" That is why. It was even worse because in a different trade by the same team, he had transferred money so not only did he release Burgess twice, but released another player twice, and paid the cash sum twice. 2) Contract issues. The reason he wanted to trade Burgess despite him being so good is he simply would not speak to him about an extension. Another team didn't care about this and just wanted him on his team even if he were to be a rental. Fine. However, Burgess was technically just PUT on New Orleans (the team receiving Burgess) for the backwards reason: the AI saw that I claimed Burgess was on New Orleans even though the upload didn't match and just put him there. What is wrong with this? Not only was he no longer getting paid $11,000,000 (he was receiving the league minimum) but he was happy as hell to talk to New Orleans about a contract. Also, he was completely pissed off, a mood that New England's GM says he was not in previously. Just some food for thought. |
