New Online League - Part 2

Hi,

So I was able to send the entire file to my friend who un zipped it in the proper directory. He is able to open the game no problem, but in the game when he clicks download league file (not sure if that's what's it's exactly called) it gives him an error saying unable to connect to server. I know my ftp site is working properly because I can click the same option and it connects, downloads and unpacks the file in my game no problem.

What could be causing it not to let him down the league files within the game?

First thought is OOTP needs firewall permissions.

I'm thinking you probably set one of the settings wrong. I know they were kind of tricky the first time for even one veteran commish.

I'd suggest PMing someone here you trust with screenshots of what you have input in those screens already and then they may be able to tell you what's wrong.

EDIT: I just re-read your post (I originally read it, then replied to someone else so I forgot a key sentence). If you tested it then I guess it should work, but I wonder if there's still something in the settings that might make it not work for some. I don't normally hear of managers having download problems firewall-wise. It's certainly something to look into however. If he confirms that that's not the issue then maybe send us the link and see if we have the same problem.

I think his friend's copy of the league may be missing the FTP info. Zipping the folder from the desktop might actually be different from uploading the file thru OOTP itself.

So what is happening is, when they click on check for updated league files, it goes through all the motions, then it sits at 100% (reading file information) and about after 30 seconds it give him an error stating "Error could not get file information". So it seems that they can connect and download the file but for some reason OOTP is having a problem reading the file. Any suggestions?

This is just a bump, does anyone have ideas on how to correct my situation?

Okay, I ended up doing a bunch of different things so I'm not positive exactly what the problem(s) was, but in the end I got it to work so just do the following and it should work for you too.

1) I renamed the folders on your ftp because I suspected that the uppercase and/or the spaces were a problem. "League File" is now "downloads" and "Team Uploads" is now "exports".

2) In your game setup > online options screen you need to fill out the first section, "League File Upload Options". You should know the rest, but "Target Path on Server" should be simply "/downloads". Check your password. Change the "Team Uploads" fields to "/exports".

3) You may need the 10.4.36 patch installed. It fixes some ftp stuff that I think your ftp might require. The top left of the opening screen shows the version #.

4) From the OOTP prefs screen click on "open config folder". Then open "app" in a text editor. Search for the line "ftp_passive_mode". Make sure it has "1" under it. If you don't have those 2 lines, create them. Exit OOTP. Save and close the app file. Reload OOTP. Reopen the app file and check that it still has a 1.

After I did all that I copied the lg folder to test it as a manager later, then went back to the commish lg, simmed a few days, uploaded the league files through the game, switched to the manager lg and then successfully updated the league files through the game. Then I did all that again with no problem.
