I hope you spread the word amongst those you go to school with.

My annual pre-order is in. This game, no matter what my complaints are, never fails to interest and to energize me. It is totally worth every penny I spend.

Hurry spring!

It's extremely disappointing. I have a feeling I won't be ordering until more details are made available. What makes PISD so much more vulnerable on the PC than on Mac and Linux?

I really don't know, but my best guess is that since PISD's system is relatively new and probably not really yet tested by hackers that OOTP tested it by releasing it via linux last time and found that didn't get pirated (and even if it had it probably wouldn't have hurt their sales too much). Now maybe they're confident to take a bit more risk and test a release of it on mac, which might hurt them a fair bit if it gets pirated on macs, but not as much as it would if the PC release got pirated (if that happened we might all just have to kiss goodbye to our hobby). If that's the case then I'd say that's probably pretty smart and I'd support them fully in that choice. Maybe a few months after OOTP10 is released and nothing bad happens then they'll be confident to test a PC release via PISD then.

Base Stealer,

I think the system spec info is provided at the link here.
(Look at the right side of the page.)

If these are not enough, I guess you'd have to ask for more info.

I detailed answer here is top secret for obvious reasons. The main contributing factor is that I work on Linux and Macs and know them well, whereas I have not used a Windows PC in quite a few years now which means it takes me longer to make sure things are up to our required standard.

If it helps, we too are frustrated that the windows version was not ready.

I didn't read any features involving defense/defensive stats. Pretty please, let there be.

Thanks, Paul. That's all the granularity I was looking for. Any ideas on what kind of time frame we could see this being ready for Windows?

Wow, a reworking of the pitching system. That alone probably will push me off the fence about making an annual contribution. Even if it doesn't work flawlessly in this release, I admire your willingness to wade into the thicket of this issue.

A question, though: I have to confess myself slightly skeptical about whether the new pitching system will be able to evaluate a pitcher on the number of good pitches he throws. One reason why relievers are relievers, for example, is that many of them don't have more than 2 good pitches (some only 1! ), and that makes them suspect when they have to face a batter more than once, which is one reason why they are replaced so quickly. Does the new system take into account the assortment of pitches, along with the absolute value of the best one? I ask because one *ahem!* slightly cynical way of reading the new system would be to say that it parses into individual pitch ratings what was formerly a single number in earlier versions. So the result is the same, it's just the interface shows numbers for the pithces.

That worry aside, though, this looks promising.

Don't worry... the plan is to tie the number of pitches and their ratings together to determine wether a pitcher can be successful as a starter at a given level.

Have human managers been given actual contracts with monetary amounts yet? Every other GM/Manager in the game gets that, so why don't we?

Also, I'd really love to see this game (not necessarily this incarnation, but future versions) really do something about the GM/Manager model. For example, you get wins added to your managerial win total as a human manager, even if you are a GM and have hired an AI manager. I believe that you should have the option to do both or either job. As coach, you would be at the mercy of your GM when it comes to front office stuff, but would have control over your team strategy and game to game things. GMs would not have as much say in those things if you chose that route. One reason I say this is that for a game that tries to be the most realistic simulation experience of baseball, going from managing a AA or AAA ball club to becoming a GM is a bit unrealistic. Getting a gig as a manager, though, would be more realistic, then after a while getting an offer to GM another club or do both.

I look forward to the game and I anticipate another quality product, but the whole human manager/GM setup annoys me.

What a terrific piece of news, Markus. And as I said, even if it has a few flaws in its first iteration, I am bowled over by your willingness to dive into this.

I have to ask...

Are we finally going to have a franchise encyclopedia page for pitchers that looks like this instead of the jumbled mess it is now? Pitchers really need to have their consecutive seasons tied together. The current setup is horrible. That's the only thing I'm requesting to get in before release (since I know my development report won't be).
