Will Netbooks run this game

Thinking of buying a little netbook. Wanted to know if that is enough computing power to run this game effectively. Thanks in advance.

Which game, which version?

EDIT: Moved from General Disc. to the OOTP10 boards as it's the most likely candidate based on ktully's post history. If it should be elsewhere, report the thread and ask for it to be moved again.

Without knowing the specs of the netbook, it's tough to say (a lot of netbooks are very underpowered).

Here are OOTP's system requirements, if that is what you're referring to:

Out of the Park Baseball - System requirements

I'd want to at least meet the "recommended" requirements.

I have a netbook, and some things can't be run on it. Not because it is underpowered, but rather because the screen height is too small. Be sure to check the screen dimensions of any software you want to run, and compare it to the screen resolutions allowed on the netbook.

Several netbooks have 1024×768 screens. I'd make this a top criterion when choosing your NetBook.

I've been thinking the exact same thing and have been eyeing the Dell Mini 9. The hardware specs look good (1.6ghz, 1gb ram (can upgrade to 2gb), 8gb SSD HD (can upgrade)...but the resolution is 1024x600. Argh.

There seem to have been nine NetBooks produced so far which have large enough screens to run OOTP:

Dell Mini 12
Gigabyte M912
HP Mininote 2133
Inventec Kohjinsha SX3
Quanta Computer OLPC XO-1
Samsung NC20
Sinomanic Tianhua GX-1C
Sony P-Series
Zelybron Micro Nina

That 1.6 GHz does not translate into a desktop 1.6 GHz
It is single core, runs at a lower voltage and has a front size bus speed much lower than a typical processor.

Approximate prices, according to a quick search:

Dell Mini 12 $484
Gigabyte M912 $700
HP Mininote 2133 $329
Inventec Kohjinsha SX3 $899
Quanta Computer OLPC XO-1 $399(?)
Samsung NC20 $370
Sinomanic Tianhua GX-1C $250
Sony P-Series $899
Zelybron Micro Nina $475

The prices reflect the general quality of the products: the Sony is the nicest one, the Sinomanic the most bare-bones.

I think some netbooks may have to wait until the OnLive service is offered in order to run OOTP 10.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of programs out there that will simulate 1024x768 resolution on a 1024x600 screen. My Asus 901 does it with stock utilities. I haven't tried to install OOTP yet, but I see no reason why it wouldn't run given the specs (it's an amazing little machine). Someday I will, and I'll post more info.

Netbooks run about half the speed of a Celeron, so if it did run, I do not think that it would be very enjoyable.

Netbooks are designed for e-mail and surfin.

The Atom processor is actually pretty decent, and a decent netbook nowadays can be used for anything that you could do with a mid-range notebook computer three or four years ago. A top of the line netbook is even better.

The Atom N270 will run at similar speeds to a Celeron M, with much better power consumption and far less heat. So in OOTP terms, you wouldn't want to sim a hundred years of MLB, but my guess is that it would be perfectly fine for keeping up with online leagues while traveling.

As I said, I'll someday try out OOTP on mine, because I'm curious, and I'll post some results.

It runs fine on a netbook. It's actually quite fast, because XP is faster than Vista.

The issue is the screen size--using Astray to simulate 1024 x 768 does work.

Maybe if enough of us plead, we can get a 1024 x 576 (or 600, which is what mine runs on, but many run at 576) resolution setting?

I play it daily on a netbook. The only issue is the screen size (I know we have 1024 X 720 as an option..so all I'm asking for is 120! :-)

Most netbooks 600 vertical resolution

Most netbooks have screens with 600 vertical resolution. I refuse to buy any Windows or Linux software that won't run at 600 vertical resolution.

I wonder how much work it would be to whip up a 1024x600 driver for the game? There seems to be some demand for it.

1024*600 will work if you run the game in fullscreen mode. However, on some screens info will be cut off since the screens were designed for a minimum 1024*720 resolution.

Wow.. I knew that the ootp 10 is not support 1024*600. I decide I am going to buy S5 UMPC made by Yukyung viliv.
