Just curious, because, like I said, I've never even played the game before, and was just surprised to see so many people that were uninterested in the "real" side of things. Thanks.
I think there's just as many that play real setups as there are fictional. For me it's fictional, and one of the big things I like about it is, I don't know the players. I have no preconceived notions of what to expect. I don't have to worry about cussing the game when Albert Pujols hits .234 with 12 HR's. There are many reasons I prefer fictional and that's just one of them. I do however, enjoy historical with real players. Leagues that are in the early to mid 1900's are fun.

Haha, thanks, I'll be sure to do that.

I like no history whatsoever.. I want to see the universe develop right before my eyes.

For me it's a personal preference. I like baseball and statistics, but I don't like the MLB. I couldn't care less about real life players. I've never played with real players, and probably never will.

im a real rosters guy, but lately ive wanted to get a promotion/relegation fictional league going, maybe even run a league for the first time where 20 teams fight to stay in the league and 18 teams battle to get into it... im not sure its possible though but its a thought ive had and wanted to do, this thread just jogged my memory, im still stuck on how to handle the draft, as well as actually promoting and relegating the teams after the season.

Online is my only way to go. I found an excelent league that was slanted towards neewbies and jumped right in. Fictional, modern era, salary cap etc. I love competing against real people. CPU games seem to always have exploitable holes. People are far less predictable.

Most people come to the game like this. You'll start the way you've said, with the Giants, and after a few years you'll be winning regularly. You'll want a new challenge...so you'll say, "I'll give this fictional thing a try..."

And you'll never go back. Unless you say, instead, "I'll give this historical thing a try..." Then, you'll turn into one of them...

For me, starting with a real team is much easier to get in to. My expectations always get in the way. Every player who performs better or worse than I expect frustrates me, good and bad trade offers frustrate me, my knowledge of the player's future ruins every player move I make. Fictional league's are tougher to get in to, but there are no expectations to ruin the game. With a few 'house rules' to make up for the AI's roster management shortcomings, team building is a lot more fun.
