Real World Setup Vs Fictional Setup

I was wondering what most of you play.
Do you like to try to mirror the real world of baseball or do you like to create your own fictional leagues.

I create my own fictional league. Currently I have a US baseball league comprised of 8 Major league teams with 3 levels of minors.

I find it so much more fun and less stressful to do this rather than worry about if the game is representing my "real life" players correctly.

Fictional. It began with a real-world-like setup, but I've since have had fun with the different varieties of options we have. For instance I have a league on Mars. For me its fun playing this way.

A lot of people play historical where they either recreate history or play with an alternative history. That could be a lot of fun too, but I haven't tried it.

I also play with fictional players and leagues. I had played Strat-o-matic for a long time which only has "real" players. When they stopped making a Mac version, I looked around and found OOTP. The idea of using fictional players didn't really appeal to me, frankly it seemed kind of silly. But I downloaded the demo and rather than look for real player rosters (they didn't come with the game then) I set-up a quick fictional league and got hooked pretty fast. Now it's the only way I would want to play. As silvan said you don't have to worry about whether your players track the real player results and you do get attached to them. It's kind of exciting when a player you drafted gets into the Hall of Fame 20 years later even if he played for another team most of his career.

I created a 12 team league with two levels of minors. It's modeled after the Valley Baseball League, a College Summer League in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

By the way, if you are ever near the Shenandoah Valley in June or July, I highly recommend stopping by to see a game or two. New Market is my favorite spot, but all the parks are great places to watch a game for $5.00 (at least it was last year) and they use wooden bats. It's not as well known as the Cape Cod League and the players aren't as high profile, but they still get some good young players and it's a lot of fun. And, isn't baseball suppose to be fun?

Historical league setup with fictional players. That way I don't get annoyed by seeing George Brett traded for Dickie Noles.

That's referred to as a hybrid league. They sure are a lot of fun to play.

That would be me, also. I play with fictional players in a semi-real league structure (a variant on the Oriental leagues). I've tried to do historical and 'real' MLB, but I just can't make it work. I'll be trying again with Version 10, though.

They still do, except now when you do it a warning or expulsion is usually in order.... Bob Gibson would not enjoy pitching in this era.

Well, seeing as how I'm still playing Season Ticket Baseball 2003, I've resorted to fictional leagues with fictional players and fictional teams. However, I do mimic MLB in most regards to my league setup.

What do you fictional guys do about logos and graphics and unis and stuff? Do you just go without or hope you can find what you need to match up with the teams in your league?

I do without. My setup is pretty minimalist. No stadiums, photos, logos, caps or uniforms; no sound, no ball movement. The only individualizing thing I use is FaceGen, and that's only because it's easier for me to remember faces than names.

I use fictional leagues usually. Usually a 12 team league with 3 levels of minors. If feeder leagues have been improved in 10 I'll add a high school and college league.
