Historical league

Thinking about doing more simming in this next realease and less playing out the games and thus starting from the earliest year in a historical game. IN previous versions do the historical games set up for auto expansion and shifting of the leagues around or does that have to be done manually?

There is an option to follow real history, expansion, relocation, name changes.

I'm not certain that it changes the LEAGUES around, though. The last I knew the game was still locked into the 'two sub-leagues' system, so it can't accurately represent the brief three league periods. I'm under the impression that once you have the two subleagues it never shrinks back to one again (1890s), and it mandates an even number of teams in a subleague, so seven and eleven team leagues are rounded to even numbers.

Really, though, Version 9 is a major improvement over the earlier versions when doing 19th century baseball, and everything BruceM said is true.

OOTP handles everything but "shifting of the leagues around." That it cannot do.

There are a number of issues with simming 19th century baseball that prevent OOTP from doing it all automatically (odd numbers of teams in a league), teams folding mid season, etc). If you're trying to replicate baseball to that level of accuracy in the 19th century, you need to do much of it manually - although it can be done. Check out the historical leagues forum for a lot of detail on what people have found. It's also a great place to get questions answered, as it appears that there's a strong subset of folks who've spent a fair amount of time tackling these questions.

Nah that's good. I'm not super interested in 19th century baseball. Other than a chance to manage the greats from that era. Im more intersted in post 1940. I just want to get to 1969 and boom see the royals as a new team and the game set up their expansion draft.

That's how I'm killing time with OOTP9 right now. I started in 1969 and took over the Royals with their original roster.

I'm up to 1989 now and the Royals are much better under me than they were in reality :-) When the stadium automatically becomes Kauffman Stadium I may just change it to ZouDave Stadium ;-)
