End of season sim time.

I'm hoping that the sim speed directly after the season is a lot faster. My 1.6 ghz computer takes about 10 minutes to wrap up the season.

I think I'm averaging around 5 minutes tops, but given the amount of info the game has to go through, I don't think 10 minutes is very long to wait.

Do you have the game set to save all game logs, box scores, replays, etc? This will increase that time. Also, if you're running the Almanac then it will add a signifigant amount of time.

In my experience RAM is far more important in OOTP performance than CPU speed.

If you have less than a gig, you might consider adding some more. Usually a cheaper upgrade option and one that will pay dividends in all of your software.

I maxed out my ram at 4GB pretty cheap on my old rig and it ran OOTP 9 really well. I also used BruceM's suggestion and limited the logs and boxscores I saved. I think I was under 5 minutes for end of season easily.

My computer:
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
2.79 GHz 1.25 GB of Ram

I have a 64-team league with 8 divisions and use the Almanac (save everything but Game Logs). Stats are set at High Details. I use facegen photos for all players.

I have played only two seasons. I do it slowly so I can get immersed in the league. I have a dynasty report and write league summaries twice a season, at mid-season and at the end of the season. I control all teams, set line-ups and pitching rotations. I do that twice a year, at the all-star break and at the beginning of a new season. It takes me about 2 months to play a season.

It takes about 30 minutes to sim an entire season including generating the almanac, which seems to take most of the time.

I'm afraid that as the seasons go by, the sim time will increase proportionally.
Anyone know if this is a correct assessment?

Me and a buddy are in our 14th season and it's taking forever to load the game (Clicking on "Continue game" takes a full 2 minutes before the league is loaded).

Also, I noticed that when I press finish today, the "loading time" increases with the time...

Is there any files we could delete to speed up the loading?

I think I tried deleting the messages some time ago and it sped up a lot but then I freaked out and I putted them back?

The longer you sim (seasons) the bigger the Almanac gets.

The bigger the Almanac gets, the longer it will take to run the change over from year to year.

This is what I do at the end of each season:

Quote:
Files That Are Safe To Delete To Improve Game Performance

messages - delete entire contents of this folder; NOTE: ALSO DELETE MESSAGE.DAT.
news/html - delete contents of all folders except images; do not delete the styles.css file.
news/txt - delete contents of leagues* and teams** folders; do not delete anything from players folder.

* Definitely delete the log.txt files generated from game logs. The other files are not large or numerous, so consider leaving them alone.
** You can find, isolate, and save the team numbered files that correspond to the team whose news is to be kept, if any.

My computer is getting a bit dated now (about 15 months old), so I'm curious to see the speeds when X comes out:

Q6600 processor
8Gig RAM

Hopefully it's far less than 5mins/season.

Thanks, BruceM.

I kinda thought that would be the case.

I deleted the messages and found that it deletes all of my news stories.

I saved them in the recycle bin and put them back and restored them.

Max out your memory. Having 4+ GB really helps Windows and therefore OOTP run faster.

If you run Vista there is another thing you can do called ReadyBoost, where you use a USB memory stick as virtual memory to speed Vista up. It's really easy to do.

Want speed? If you have a 64-bit processor, install 64-bit Ubuntu and run the Linux version of OOTP.
