Breaks in careers

Is there an easy way to find all the players who had breaks in their careers?
Ive been making an retired and unretired list. So that i can retire a player when he didnt play a season and bring him back when he returned. I dont like having stats for Dimaggio and Williams when they were not playing.
I have all the players from 1871-1914 but i have to look at every single player that played more than one season in new debuts for every year at baseball reference.
Another question is does the game recalc player ratings from their last available stats years or just use actual years even if there is no stats available.? In other words when i bring Dimaggio back in 1946 with 3 yr recalc on will the game try and recalc his stats on 1946, 1942, 1941 or will it use 1946, 1945, 1944?
