Interested in Mirroring?

Hi folks,

As you know, every year the launch period is brutal for downloads. If you have a decent chunk (~700MB) of space and would like to offer mirroring services, please PM me ASAP.

We have a number of mirror sites lined up already, but better safe than sorry, eh? Also, if you have expertise with torrents and would like to help us out in that area, PM me as well.

If we use your site as a mirror, you get a free license on the OS of your choice! (NOW he tells them.

Wouldn't torrent be ideal for something like this? It speeds up the more people you have downloading it rather than slow down or stop. So for a big release where you expect a lot of people downloading at once I would hope you guys have a torrent set up as well. I have no expertise in the area but I would strongly suggest getting a torrent up and running to minimize headaches for everyone.

That's the plan. We just don't have a ton of expertise in torrents, so open to advice.

yes a Torrent would be a great idea, I PM'ed Steve volunteering to do one. I would even stop my other seeds for a bit to give the full bandwith to OOTP so it gets uploaded as soon as possible after I got the game. And unlike the generous offer above, I dont even care about a free copy.

Well best idea is to get all of the beta testers on the torrent seeding at launch. That way you don't have 1000 people leeching off of 1 seeder.

It would also be nice if people that have downloaded the game from the various mirror sites would hop on the torrent as soon as they finish and seed to help increase speed.

used to be the piratebay, but mininova is more stable these days

but those sites just truly host the trackers... you will need to get quite a few seeders going

I'd like to help out with the torrent and you wouldn't be losing out on another sale with me either.

Mininova is a good torrent site. They've instituted a 3rd party filter system which has hurt the popularity of the site, but an OOTP torrent should have no problem getting filtered by it. It'd be smart to add it to a few trackers though, piratebay and isohunt are popular too.

I have a dedicated server in Germany I would be willing to help with.

You could also do a trackerless torrent and ask people to turn DHT on, that way you would just need to distribute the .torrent file.

If your interested in having me help, let me know how you want to contacted. Oh yeah I don't even need the license since I've already ordered, but maybe a nice discount for next year would be aces.

I have a web site that I don't even use. How would I get people to download from it?

Seeding is uploading in a nutshell. You as a Seeder have a file (in this case OOTP) already downloaded on your computer, and when you connect to the tracker you can directly share the file with other people (leechers).

If you want to host the file on your website you simply need to have it downloaded and upload it onto your domain with an FTP program.

I think we need to find out if they're willing to do a torrent for the pre-orderers as well or just the general release. Because if they're willing to do it for the pre-release then you need to restrict who has access to the torrent (I presume they're restricting the regular links somehow) and I'm not sure you can do that without creating your own private tracker which probably isn't that easy unless you've done it before.

Good point, 'cause once it's out there, it's out there with a torrent.
