Is the ai improved or still stupid?
I know I've already bought this thing to save $10 but now I'm having 2nd thoughts that the AI is going to be brain dead when it comes to trading again. Is it still going to trade away 10 AAA players for one Major league player of medium quality like in 07? I remember that so well I had to make a house rule of only 5 players max as the AI would just give me anything and everything from its triple A team for some rediculously mediocre player or prospect and I was playing on HARD trading difficulty and had it highly favor prospects instead of old dead beat soon to retire veterans.
PLEASE TELL ME YOU"VE FIXED THIS ISSUE ? |

Well, "improved player evaluation AI" was listed as a feature for OOTPX and that would obviously feed into trading AI.
"Improved AI" is a slippery fish, though. How improved is "improved"? The changes could be excellent, leaps-and-bounds type things that are difficult to sell. It's a hard thing to quantify / express on a press release. "AI GMs no longer big dummies!" "AI GMs no longer trade you the farm for Ron Karkovice!" Neither of those really sounds right. Or, it could be that only really minor tweaks have been made & everything is essentially the same. But instead of admitting "we tried buggering about with the AI a bit, but then realised there were major flaws with it and just went down the pub instead", a general phrase has been used. Wait and see, I guess. |

That really doesn't say much considering it's been on the listed features for nearly every release/update I can remember.

I've been pretty happy being able to set trades to difficult and favor prospects. I can handle limiting myself to 2-1 trades. What has always bothered me more is tying my hands with FA's and not picking up high potential prospects. I'm really hoping that the AI manages it's prospects and minor league roster better. We'll find out soon enough.

If you want a computer opponent that is going to be "smart", take up computer chess. No computer simulation is going to have a smart AI opponent -- not for many years. The advantage of a baseball sim is that there are fewer ways in which the AI can screw up. Trading is one. Set it to "hard." Don't take advantage of it's mistakes. Accept that it's just a microcomputer doing the best that it can ...

My perception is that they try to improve some aspect of the AI with every release and even with the majority of patches.
I'm sure it will be better than it was. How much better? Not sure there. |

I was hoping to get the game downloaded tonight before all the easterners awaken tomorrow. That will give me a chance to get my new league created so I can get on and really check things out tomorrow. |

My (possibly faulty) memory says that past releases have mostly come about in the afternoons ET.
