Install Path Important?

I've always installed to my own personal choice (c:\games\etc) and have noticed trouble sometimes with the almanac not including box scores and game logs even though those options were checked.

Installing 10, I noticed it says the default path is recommended. Why is the default recommended? What are we risking by installing to our preferred paths? Please, someone in the know, will you clarify this?

Recommended because this helps us with support. But a different path will work just as well for you

For some reason on my Vista OOTP 8 never copied the box scores and game logs into the almanac. In OOTP 9, on the same computer, it worked fine. The only difference I could find was that in OOTP 8 I changed install paths and in OOTP9 I installed to yhe default. I was worried that changing the install path may have been the cause of my problems in 8.

Oh, and in addition to thanks for this answer and game, I also do hope all is well with you health wise.
