Does X bring enough to dump 9 for it?

Hi guys,

Title says it all, really. I've enjoyed 9 tremendously, and could continue with it pretty happily. Just wanted to ask those that have X, if it is indeed a worthy upgrade for the $$$ over 9?

Thanks for any guidance!

If you didn't preorder it, then I don't think it is worth the upgrade in IMO. It really depends if you have $40 dollars (or Euro) to burn or not. If you do, go for it. OOTP9 was one of my favorite Baseball sims ever, other than that I have been pretty much a Baseball Mogul guy, but OOTP9 changed that. With OOTP10, I feel that it is worth it but if you own OOTP9 and are hesitant to upgrade I understand. There is not a lot of things that You can do in OOTPX and not do in OOTP9.

Yes the offseason is better, the AI is smarter, and things are improved. Unless $40 means a lot to you (which it could in this economy) I'd splurge.

HTML changes alone are worth the money. Add in improved arbitration, free agency, etc-it's a must buy.

I will be buying it soon for the AI upgrades alone. However, I am also excited by the new pitching model.

For me yes. Just the fact that the schedule issue is fixed for 19th century is already enough since I only play in the historic mode. It's really great to don't have a pitcher continuously tired because he have to play in 5 or 6 consecutive days.

I thought the re-modeling pitching system and improved injury frequency would be my favourite parts of OOTPX, and they still might turn out to be, but so far I've loved playing with the team logos and the in-game widgets. They help personalize the game for me so much that knowing what I do now, I'd definitely make the upgrade.

I'd pay $40 for the pitching re-write alone.

Fair enough, I appreciate the input.

To be sure, the economy these days has me watching every dime, hence my hesitance at automatically buying this year's version....

Well be honest with yourself. If you play OOTP on average 5 hours a week. Probably not worth it. Anything more than that. Easily worth it =/

5 hours a week = 260 hours per year. $40/260 hours = $0.15 an hour, and fifteen cents an hour is pretty damn cheap for entertainment.

Not to mention a mere $0.11 a day over the year as in investment in next year's version. Only a bit over 8 cents if you pre-order. If nothing else, it's a small price to pay in the development process toward becoming a game you want it to be. The fallacy in that, I guess, is that Markus often listens regardless if the voices have chipped in that 8 cents or not. He's always ready to consider anyone's along the way.

for me the updated roster alone is worth $40, not to mention I want Markus to make gobs an gobs of money so that he keeps improving the game.

especially in this tough economy I think OOTP is a flat out bargain, as illustrated in the per hour math exhibited by others.

also you can never forget that when you buy a version of OOTP - you don't just get that version - you typically get x.1,x.2,x.3,x.4....

I also enjoy the editor, pitching model, new html and so on.

There was an updated roster mod for OOTP9

So if the only reason to buy OOTPX was for the roster, then you could be wasting your money.

Yeah, the value of OOTP on a per-day basis even is far beyond what you'd get out of anyone else.

The improved AI and the free agent compensation were good enough for me.

Yes, but you left off the second part of the sentence.

Depends on how you play. If you sim only, then I'm not sure it is much better than OOTP9. I just don't see or feel much difference. Not alot of money as people have shown however if you are not strapped for cash.

It's definitely worth it, if only for the pitching model alone. It really adds a new dimension to the game. You'll also notice lots of nagging bugs over the years that have been fixed.

To be honest, I wasn't too pleased with the small changes made between OOTP 8 & 9, but this version is a worthy upgrade for sure!

If you play out the games, and have the screen resolution, then the widget screen gives enough justification for me to upgrade.

I put this qustion in a thread, but perhaps it should be in this.

Too many lefties in the bullpen ???
I confess that I havenīt bought OOTP10 yet.
I need to know still some stuff before making the step.

My concern is that when playing my old dynasty (now in itīs 7th year) I often actually see the AI control teams getting a bullpen with 4-5 lefty relievers and using them almost in random.
It irritates me and hopefully what I picked up in the OOTP10 Manual will not only apply to the actually fight between lefty pitcher vs lefty batter, BUT also that the AI see the (perhaps) more standard bullpen with fewer lefties.
Having all the middle reliever throwing lefthanded must be unheard of in history, OR ??

This is what I read in the manual. Please give me some feedback to tip the scale in favor of making the buying move

OOTP10 Manual

"Finally, we come to a relatively minor change, but one of my personal favorites. Left handed batter/right handed batter platoon splits are now based upon pitch type and strength. This means that if you are looking for a left-handed reliever who specializes in getting left handed batters out (a LOOGY), you can quickly search for those with good sliders, for instance. If you want a right handed reliever who can handle lefties and righties equally well, look for someone with a good cutter. To determine how each pitch would influence a pitcher's platoon split in OOTP, we gathered data from real life platoon splits of pitchers who specialized in each pitch. OOTP pitchers still have their own individual platoon split ratings, so not all pitchers with the same pitches will end up with the exact same splits, but pitch types give a good general guideline. You can still view a player's Rating tab in the Player Profile to see individual split ratings, but I'm a big fan of this change because as with many of the changes to the new system, it adds realistic depth and character to my pitchers."

hm sound good, but those it work for the AI ?????
