Unable to erase league history

I've got a league that I'm trying to completely erase all history and players and start from scratch. I've got everything set up the way I want it (logos, teams names, finances, settings, etc.) and so I save this as a world template.

I then create a new game from this world template, with a start date of 1/1/1901. For some reason, at this point, the league has a complete history for 1901 already: box scores, leaders, champions, etc. I've tried League Setup --> Erase the entire league history" but that doesn't work either.

Please tell me that there's some way to get rid of this phantom history. I really don't want to start the universe from scratch again.

I'm going to try fast-simming this season to see if that overwrite the pre-existing history for 1901.

Here's a screenshot from the manager home page immediately after league creation:

Alternatively, is there an easy way to copy league structures, settings, team finances, colors, logos, jerseys and ballparks to a new game without taking any players or statistical history whatsoever with them?

Setting up a universe can be such a royal pain-in-the-butt with this game....

Can't fast-sim through the season to test anything, as the game has no schedule for the league, and won't let me edit the schedule even if I advance to February 1.

Did I just spend hours setting up a league that is now broken? Do I have any choice other than starting from scratch?

Imported my OOTP9 league into OOTP10.

Changed all the player development mods and league settings after running a few 100-year sims. Fixed the logos, jerseys, colors, ballparks, etc.

Saved it as a world template.

Created a new game from the world template, expecting to get new players and a blank history.

Under the league options, Functions tab, all the way down at the bottom is a button titled Erase the Entire League History. Have you tried that?

Yes, I've tried that both before and after saving as a world template and starting a new game. It doesn't erase everything, unfortunately.

I've been kinda fighting that same battle with a league, gordy, and templates give me fits just like they do you. Hang in there and we'll figure it out. It may not be right away, but somebody'll come up with something. I'm not the best bat on the bench, but this is on my radar to work on over the next week or two. Maybe it'll come to me in a dream. Has to be an easier way to accomplish this.

Yeah, I run into the same time-consuming problems with every new version, and I keep sticking it out.

I don't understand why, for a game that prides itself on customization, there's not an easy, efficient way to change the things that I think are customized most: team cities, nicknames, logos, affiliations, finances, colors, ballparks.

Every time there's a new version, it takes me several hours worth of basically data entry just to get the universe for my solo league set up, and inevitably I run into a stupid problem during testing that necessitates I re-do the whole thing by hand.

I would love to just be able to import/export league settings. Or league structure. Or rules. Or affiliations. Or team colors. Or team finances (market size, fan interest, etc.)

You get my point. Changing everything in-game once is onerous and time-consuming enough. Doing it two or three times because world templates don't work at all just sucks the fun right out of a new release. It's very frustrating, and I'm very frustrated right now.

Created BZ #3215

Unfortunately, that's just to cover the league history not totally being erased. I'm certain the 'enhancement' request for being able to simply transfer over all basic data would be treated as a LATER or I'd enter the "Template 101" training seminar. I've flunked that one too many times attend again. Maybe LATER. We'll shoot for this one for now. It gets us closer, I think, and accomplishes pretty much what we're after.

FYI... I had a similar problem with a league I created from a v9 template. When I cleaned it all out using the delete history button it looked like the standings from the last year were still there. I wasnt seeing it in the new page but through the league history. There was no detial behind it but just the standings were there. Being a developer myself I figured if I just sim thru the next year and see what happens. Sometimes these things are 'leftovers' that dont carry over... an lo and behold... after I simmed the first new season of the league those standings were gone and the new history data was there.

I tried that, but I couldn't sim through the first year because the schedule was empty, and it wouldn't let me edit the schedule, even in February when it's normally allowed.

I ended up just gaving up on the league and starting over from scratch.

gordy, word is this has to be done in the preseason period. Can you save your league, advance to that point in a copy, and see if it works?

Thanks.

I tried updating the schedule both in January, when I first discovered the un-erased history, and in February/March, when schedule editing is normally allowed. Both times I got the message that "schedule editing is only allowed in the preseason." I think the game thought, due to the existing history, that we were still in mid- or post-season.

Either way, the league is FUBARed, and I started over from scratch. I no longer use or rely on world templates, as I don't trust them to work. I would much rather they be augmented or replaced by the ability to import/export game settings so that league conditions can be more easily created and replicated for testing.

Just my $0.02.

Well, with lot of different variations, we're bound to have different sets of problems and successes. As of now, preparing for my new X solo league, it looks like it worked, but not without a bit of effort, you're right.

I took my league to pre-season, created a template, created a new game from it, took that one to pre-season, released all of the players to FA, deleted all of those players, deleted all of the strays (where they come from I don't know), went through my motions of erasing histories - both personal service times and league histories - and then double checked all of the history pages for the league and player samples, finding what I wanted to see: nothing.

Then created a template from that, saving it for future use when I add some teams before the final creation and lather, rinse, repeat, the erasure of service times etc.... So, I'm optimistic for my X league. I wish I were more optimistic about an easier way to accomplish this for those who want to do the same. We'll see.

I was following much the same process, but it didn't work for me, unfortunately.

Yeah, sorry. I'll keep you posted on whatever dialogue might develop toward making this an easier process. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

One little oddity I'm still spending way too much time on in relation to this is the cities.txt file. I BZd a question about it, but it appears it carries over with the conversion okay (75% sure about that), and I've replaced the X cities.txt with my old v9 version, but still when I created a template from the converted league, I end up with my added cities missing. So it's, again, one of those, do this, do thats, do it again, look heres, until three hours are gone when I should be testing something else! But it's a league I want to get to play someday. Oh, well. What it is, it is.
