the fielding model
I started a thread on the beta board about my frustrations with the OOTP fielding model. I thought I'd get some feedback here by posting an example of the things that mystify me.
1974 Import - 1-year recalc Dave Chalk (CAL) ------- Mark Belanger (BAL) RF/9: 4.88 (below avg) ------ 5.20 (best) Rtz: -10.5 (very poor) --------17.5 (best) FldPct: .938 (poor) ------ .984 (best) Infield Range in OOTP: 15 ------- 16 Infield Error in OOTP: 17 ------ 18 Overall Rating at SS: 15 ------ 17 Last edited by pstrickert; 06-07-2009 at 12:51 PM. |

Ha. Who knows. I've always felt that OOTP imports fielding ratings rather oddly.

I have had problems with the fielding ever since OOTP2007, especially the error ratings. I have imported the fielding based on 1 year and based on career and the error number appears to be the same. People with low fldg % (Jay Alou in 1969 for example) receive error ratings that aren't worse than average.
Range factors...another thing I don't understand. Even when editing the database to show the actual number of innings a player played at a position, the game seems to default to atts/game rather than atts/9 innings to create a range rating, so players who had great range (ie, CF, 3.00 atts/9 innings) but played 1/2 of the possible innings get screwed since the game sees them as 1.5 atts/game. So this results in players who were primarily defensive replacements being rendered useless in the game. I would like to manually adjust the ratings but I have no idea what to adjust them to and there is nothing I can reference to help me figure it out. |
