Drug Suspensions

This is something I asked (indirectly) around this time last year, but never really got an answer.

Isn't the only place that drug suspensions are specifically characterized as "drug" (or PED) suspensions on the league news and transactions pages? And if so, is it really necessary for them to be drug suspensions? Couldn't one, hypothetically, change the english.xml to add headlines and articles refering to suspensions for other types of off-field actions, like criminal behavior or other inappropriate conduct?

I realize that drug suspensions carry a standard 10-game suspension, and therefore, any suspendable actions should warrant such a punishment. I also realize that even if a player draws the 10-game suspension for one misdeed, then later "fails a drug test", they'll get the 50-game suspension, even if it's listed in the news as their "first" drug-related offense.

Regardless, wouldn't the inclusion of other suspension-worthy off-field actions be a good addition to the game and add to its realism?

I guess. But how much detail is enough?

Personally,I would like to see a differential for "recreational drugs" and "PED's" with the much harsher suspensions being for "PED's".Obviously though, this is a very minor deal.

It makes good sense, though.

Even though I suppose it is rather trivial, I'm interested enough that I'm going to try adding a handful of other types of suspenions to the xml file and see what happens.

Btw... Mal, since you've been around since the early OOTP days... Do you remember back when there were a handful of off-field incidents--like bar fights, for example--that were hardcoded and would knock out a couple of players each season?

That's what I'm going for here. If a player were to get into a bar fight during the season, I'd think he would get at least a 5-game suspension. Add that onto the few games he might miss from any injuries sustained in the altercation and it could easily keep him out of action for 10 games.

Anyway, like I said, it's just a little something to add some off-field depth to the game. We'll see how it turns out.
