Hooking Starters

How do I tell the AI to hook starters earlier than it is? I just simmed a game that I lost with a final score of 15-7. I thought, WOW, what happened. I go look at the box score, and they scored 9 runs in the final 3 innings. The starting pitcher was never taken out and the poor guy ended up throwing 176 pitches! I have another starter on the DL for 13 months, thanks to a similar stunt.

Sounds like you have something that's not working quite right. The primary influence over how soon an SP gets hooked is the team strategy page slider for hooking starters. As a general rule, based on where this slider is set, your starter should get hooked after giving up anywhere from 3-8 runs -- most likely 4-6 runs. If your starter is being kept in past that point, then there is something blocking the AI from bringing in a reliever. The best I can suggest is that you do some investigating, checking the manual and so forth, and see if you can pinpoint the problem a little more specifically.

DOH! I knew there had to be a slider on that page, I just totally missed it. I'd investigate it, but it happens very rarely. I have plenty of relievers, and a league leading closer. Seems like the AI is trying to run ~7% of the games as complete games for the AI (3 complete games out of 43 played). So I'm hoping the strategy slider will fix it.

One thing you can do is go to game setup/league setup/strategy and change pitcher endurance

OR

go to each pitcher profile/action/set game strategy/put max pitch count
