It's caught...nope it's dropped.
I play out my games and I've noticed an inordinate amount of fly balls caught by an OF, then the OF crashes into the wall, then the ball pops out for a hit. Anyone else finding that this happens WAY TOO MUCH?

I've played out about 20 games in my season so far and have only noticed this happen probably about 4-5 times. This is much more than last season when you would never see it happen! So i'm impressed/happy. Are you sure you're not just using a small sample size?

I've played about 15 games and it seems like it's happening every other game. I understand that its not a large sample size, but I watch a pretty good amount of real baseball and I can't tell you the last time I saw it happen.

Good. Zero would be a nice frequency.

With me posting, you now have both pbp guys having said something in the thread... if there's any pbp issues, or pbp you'd like to see (like you suggest above) it would be a good time to clearly detail what they are.

I think over-sliding the base on steal attempts happen way too much. I felt this with ootp9 as well but never spoke up about it.
I've played out about 2 seasons now in ootp10 and have seen the ball pop out of the glove about 1 in every 5 games or so for a hit. Way too much. Why wouldn't this be an error anyway? Tom

I haven't had many balls dropped in play, but I would say there's too many tipped balls to the catcher and checked swing appeals (way too many tipped balls, not quite so many checked swings). Generally, though, I'm really enjoying my pbp experience. Last edited by moi auci; 06-08-2009 at 09:50 AM. Reason: Added last sentence. |

The main pbp issues have been pretty well laid out in this thread. Nothing that is more than just annoying really. Overall, I think the pbp is quite good. Especially the little stat drop-ins like what a guy is hitting with men is scoring position, etc.

I found one that didn't have a limited usage tag. I put one on it. Hopefully that should tone it down.

You had said if we could apply the suspense aspect to a few other plays it wouldn't be a bad thing. Curious what other plays we might make a little better.

Maybe late in a game, when the count goes to 2-2, have a pause where the pitcher steps off, or asks for another sign, wipes his brow, or the batter steps out, looks down to 3rd base for a sign, etc, before the key pitch is delivered.

* A sliding catch on a line drive. A pause waiting on the ump to signal if it was trapped or caught. * A leaping catch to rob a homer. Pause waiting to see if the OF brought it back or not. * A borderline fair/foul homerun.
