Starting unemployed and working up...

Just wondering when you start unemployed and try to work your way up as a manager to the Majors, like you would in a real career.... It seems like no matter how bad you do at one level you will still get job offers. Is this just random or does your performance actually play a part in what jobs open up to you?

From what I have observed, all open jobs will be offered to you regardless....

Seems to be fairly random. I'm playing a game like this, finished 550 in a short-a league, and I got no promotion on the off-season, nor did any position open up in the listings.

How many bad managers in real life keep getting job after job. Francona was offered the Red Sox job back in 2004, even though he never had a winning season in 4 years in Philly (77-85 was his best season in '99). Not that I'm calling him a bad manager, just illustrating that no matter how badly you do, unless you're black-listed, you get more than your fair share of chances in MLB.

The difference being Francona was already a manager with MLB experience. I went through 1 season in the lowest league (rookie or short season or whatever it is), and won 8 games all season and was still offered a job in AA. Just a bit unrealistic. But oh well, maybe I'll just come up with some house rules.

I imagine that was just by chance though, it would be cool if organizations promoted from within like that. I imagine that happens in real life at least through the minors.. but not sure.

How are you guys handling the nonsensical daily trades the AI does between its different minor league teams?

Nice, as a side note... when that league reaches current day.. would you still be coaching at over 100? Or does the game eventually kill you....? haha

Nothing, the league goes on and you live on and keep playing until you retire.
I suppose hypothetically you could start in 1871 and keep playing into the year 3000 and have the same manager the entire time.
A little odd, but your manager persona/age is purely cosmetic anyway.

No, it depends upon which league you start the game managing in. If you start as a major league manager, you'll have access to most jobs.

Also, in commish mode, every job is always available to you.

I'm starting in short-A ball. I've noticed that the Nationals GM and manager jobs opened up in June but I could not apply. How much "cred" do I need for this to open up to me?

Also, for the record, I'm managing A-ball in the Nationals organization (Vermont Lake Monsters).

I have found it is fairly easy to promote within the minor leagues, but I have also seen the ax fall pretty quickly as well.

Please tell me that the Facegen picture of your manager eventually turns into a skeleton.

It does, I was with another organization and missed the playoffs by one game, and was fired.

I was in A, won the championship and was immediately promote to AA, then because of the schedule difference, took over the AA team just as their championship series was starting. I won that too which the AI rewarded me with an immediate promotion to AAA.

After a terrible year in AAA, I was offered a job with the Cubs.

There is an option to add another manager under the game menu.
