Suspension in Spring Training
I had a player suspended for 4 games early in Spring Training. He was unable to play for any of the rest of Spring Training and still had a 4 game suspension when the regular season started.
Is this true to the way it would be handled in real life? |

I don't know the answer to your question. However, I turn suspensions off, and set injuries to low or very low during Spring Training. You could turn injuries off, but that would take some of the realism away.

I'll have to check my facts, but I think suspensions apply to the season and not ST. As such the suspension would begin then. I only vaguely remember this being discussed, but it wasn't so long ago that a search may not bring it up with a little effort.

See spring training 2008: NYY Shelley Duncan's "slide" into Aki Iwamura of the Rays. Duncan and Melky Cabrera were suspended for 3 games each, while Jonny Gomes got 2. All the suspensions were slated to begin at the start of the regular season that year. There have been others to be sure, but that's the only one I could come up with off the top of my head. So, the answer to your question is yes.

If you're asking how it is in real life, then I'm pretty sure the player can play in ST, and starts his suspension in the regular season.
J.C. Romero of the Phillies was suspended 50 games for violating the PED rules this past offseason, around December or January. And I think he pitched in both the World Baseball Classic and the Phillies spring training, but began serving his suspension on opening day, IIRC. In fact, I think he just returned very recently to the Phillies, having served his 50 days.

I think we have a bug.
I had a pitched suspended on the last game of the season for 7 games. He did not pitch in one inning in ST despite being listed in the starting rotation and then was ineligible for the first 7 games of the regular season.

This ESPN article, regarding J. C. Romero confirms, I believe, that players suspended can in fact play in spring training games.

If you think that is bad I had a suspension on the last day of the season, with my team headed to the playoffs. He was forced to sit out the playoffs.

Even Alomar was allowed to play in the playoffs when he spit in that umpire's face.
